RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Project Engineer, you will:
Learn and become proficient in functions within the Project Controls department.
Become knowledgeable in the functions of the Estimating department.
Learn and be able to perform the functions within the Purchasing and Tool & Equipment.
Understand the commercial terms and conditions for projects.
Understand and gain exposure to craft labor agreements.
Understand and gain exposure to various contract strategies and types.
Participate in Construction Operations Meetings.
Perform accounting system functions.
Actively participate in customer entertainment and develop relationships with customers.
Attend Risk Management training to understand levels of risk that the company will accept.
Learn to perform safety audits and perform at least one per week.
Participate in company Safety Incentive programs and in daily safety planning activities.
Participate in Quality Action Teams and actively seek areas where we can improve day to day operations and procedures.
Understand the company Marketing Plan and assist in pursuit of projects.
Communicate, through the appropriate channels, any observations of noncompliance with the Guiding Principles and Core Values of the company.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree in Construction Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is required.
We will train an entry level graduate and/or hire an experienced industrial construction project engineer.

**DESCRIPTION:**
As a **Civil/Structural Design Engineer** at Frontier-Kemper, you will have the opportunity to: be an integral member of the Engineering Division at Frontier-Kemper Constructors, Inc. The Civil/Structural Engineer will work on mining and heavy civil construction projects as well as hoisting equipment projects. Design work will include construction plan preparation, hoisting equipment design and manufacture, mining shaft and slope design, and construction support for all aspects of mining and heavy civil construction projects. The CivilEngineering team works as part of an in-house multi-disciplinary technical unit that supplies design, analysis and consulting services for both internal and external customers. In this role, the Civil/Structural Engineer will interact with peers, consultants, outside vendors and clients, as appropriate.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**
+ Design civil/structural systems, structures and components.
+ Assist with modifications to existing equipment, systems, structures and components.
+ Provide technical support to the Civil, Mining and FKC - Lake Shore Divisions.
+ Assist with project planning and technical quotes for systems, structures and components.
+ Ensure compliance with safety standards related to civil/structural systems, structures and components.
+ Assist in responding to site-based requests for information, including analysis and recommendations.
+ Prepare and present project documents including calculations, drawings, specifications and reports.
+ Travel to site, as needed.
**REQUIREMENTS:**
+ Undergraduate or Graduate Degree inCivilEngineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
+ A minimum of 3 - 10 years of work experience, preferably in a field related to underground construction and/or mining.
+ A licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) or able to register as a licensed P.E. within 2 years.
+ Experience in design of reinforced concrete structures and steel structures.
+ Geotechnical engineering and/or support of excavation (SOE) design experience is desirable.
+ Proficient in preparation of structural calculations utilizing structural analysis software and hand calculations.
+ Demonstrated logical problem-solving skills, including conceptual and analytical skills.

**ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBLITIES MAY INCLUDE**
**Provides guidance and leadership to newer colleagues and/or those with less experience on complex engineering assignments.**

Stay abreast of new design and analysis technologies, and building materials through continuing education activities.

Building foundation design including shallow and deep foundations
Concrete pit and trench design
Soil retention design including those for temporary construction

Equipment lifting design and layout
Fall protection design for general industry and construction

Requirements and Preferences
Applicants should have a minimum of a BS inCivilEngineering with a focus on Structures and a minimum of 5 years of experience in the design of industrial, power generation and commercial facilities and structures. Applicants should have a working knowledge of Structural Analysis and Design Software (specifically RAM suite preferred) as well as BIM strategies using Revit and Navisworks.
The Physical and Ergonomic Requirements of this position are as follows:
Lifting/carrying: Carrying light loads related to field measurement equipment, equipment cases weighing 15 lbs. or less.
Dexterity: Ability to type using a keyboard with relative efficiency, ability to make handwritten notes and sketches indoors and outdoors at industrial plant and construction sites at any time of the year.
Walking/Climbing: Ability to use multi-level stair towers and rung ladders unassisted.
Visual Acuity: Ability to discern single line and 3 dimensional computer images representing objects being designed or drafted.
Hearing: Ability to hear safety alarms and signals while wearing hearing protection.
