Position Responsibilities:
Develop, integrate and document structural and interior payload system requirements to establish the system design
Develop, maintain and modify structural and interior payload system and component designs, using 3-D Computer Aided Design tools and/or other design methods, to provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle
Perform tests to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications
Manage supplier development, test and production activities and coordinates with the supplier to optimize the design and achieve program goals
Support investigation of emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

JOB SUMMARY
Summer 2026
This position assists the CivilEngineer in the application of principles, methods and techniques of civilengineering technology by performing routine and complex engineering technician related work for environmental, water, sewer, street and other public works projects and programs and computer aided drafting and design.
Work is performed under the direction of an Engineer and the Director of Public Works in accordance with policies and procedures as defined by the County Council and requires independent judgment, discretion and tact in the resolution of sensitive and controversial issues. Work is reviewed for operational efficiency, cost effectiveness and compliance with applicable Federal, State and Local laws.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
* Assists in the preparation of bid packages, project planning and monitoring of job costs.
* Performs traffic counts, traffic studies, accident analysis, sign location studies and other traffic studies as required.
* Assists in the preparation of as-built records of projects and documents necessary changes for the operation and maintenance programs.
* Maintains a daily log of all project activities and prepares project status reports.
* Performs computer aided drafting of an engineer's design.
* Reviews project specifications and confers with Deputy Director concerning assistance required, such as plan preparation, acceptance testing, evaluation of field conditions, design changes and reports.
* Prepares reports detailing tests conducted and results. Drafts and calculates field notes to document quantities, alignment, grade and locations according to project plans or to document monthly and final progress estimates.
* Surveys project sites to obtain and analyze topographical details of sites.
* Researches records, maps and other data to obtain such typical engineering data such as location of sewer stubs, water mains, hydrants, etc. and zoning district designations or special property assessments.
* Performs additional duties with the required abilities and under the indicated working conditions and environment as may properly be required of a position in this job class.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
* High School Diploma or Equivalent.
* Post-secondary education at an accredited college or university working toward a Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering.
Licenses or Certifications:
* Must possess a valid Class E Driver's License.
Special Requirements:
* May require early morning or late evening hours.
* Pass background check.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
* Ability to utilize a variety of advisory data and information such as civilengineering plans, easement plats, and subdivision plats, legal property descriptions, plats, survey information, deeds, maps, street guides, policy and procedure manual, state laws and regulations, and other non-routine correspondence.
* Ability to decide the time, place and sequence of operations within an organizational framework, and to coordinate their execution. Ability to analyze and categorize data and information using established criteria, to determine consequences and identify and select alternatives.
* Ability to communicate orally and in writing with County officials, legal counsel representatives, business/industry representatives, and the general public.
* College level algebra, geometry and calculus.
* Ability to use functional reasoning in performing problem resolution involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
* Ability to operate computers with relevant software and word processing equipment.
* Ability to type a variety of correspondence.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is light and requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. The work also requires mental and visual acuity, speaking, balancing, feeling; picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand; grasping; picking, holding or otherwise working with the whole hand; hearing, kneeling, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, standing, stooping, talking, and walking.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is performed indoors in an office environment with low to moderate noise level and occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
