PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Design Manager is responsible for overseeing engineering and architectural design, bid evaluation, contract administration, project scheduling, and quality control for capital projects that require architectural and engineering capabilities within the Capital Development Program, encompassing both landside and airside environments.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Managing consultants, overseeing project schedules and costs, reviewing engineering plans, preparing bid documents, and ensuring compliance with FAA standards and funding requirements.
Interdepartmental coordination, public presentations, and support of long-term facility planning and development.
Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with stakeholders, tenants, and regulatory agencies are essential.
Interfaces with various governmental agencies to ensure departmental compliance with regulatory requirements such as the FAA AIP Handbook, FAA Advisory Circulars, in addition to state and local requirements, ordinances, and codes.
Interprets contracts, bids/proposals, specifications, and other technical documents.
Reviews the work of architects, engineers, contractors, and other project service providers. Approves the designs as appropriate.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, architecture, or related field.
Seven to ten (7-10) years of experience in engineering, architecture, or construction management, with a demonstrated track record of leading complex infrastructure projects.
Experience with staff augmentation models, government contract administration, and consultant oversight in the context capital improvement programs.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Industry Knowledge: Knowledge, understanding, and experience in the professional practice of Architecture and Engineering, including AIA contracts, building codes, construction documents, specification writing, construction administration, quality control processes, and project closeout.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/LICENSES

The person should have the ability to evaluate and learn new systems quickly as they relate to internal processes. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Licensure as an Architect or a Professional Engineer is preferable. Background in or exposure to Lean Six Sigma methodology or other process improvement methodologies preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF POSITION
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is continuously required to communicate by talking and listening, using fingers and hands, walking, lifting, repetitive motion and sitting. Manual dexterity and coordination are required while operating maintenance and electronic control systems equipment.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This role will be around an airport environment with varied personnel work sites including facilities, maintenance shops, airfield movement and non-movement areas and secure areas around the airport. Occasional travel to other locations and/or to workshops/professional meetings/conferences is required, and occasional participation in evening and weekend events is mandatory.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position is a supervisor over the Capital Development department. Supervision is the responsibility of positions in this classification. Decisions are made within broad interpretation of applicable guidelines and federal, state, and county policies and rules.

Reporting to the Manager - Mechanical Engineer the Drafter's role involves preparing engineering and/or production layouts and drawings, assemblies, or subassemblies and Bill of Materials based on designs submitted in the form of engineering notes, specifications, and sketches.
What a typical day looks like:
Develops engineering layouts, drawings, and documentation of various levels of components, assemblies, and subassemblies using CAD system.
Contributes design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operations or quality of product.
Works with engineers regarding model accuracy, design, drafting standards and Engineering Change Order (ECO) documentation.
Prepares bills of materials, which correspond to engineering drawings.
Maintains and applies working knowledge of all company standards, which affect product design and manufacturing processes, including design, drafting, and quality inspection.
May work with system management including file maintenance, backup, and storage.
The experience we're looking to add to our team:
Typically requires an Associate's degree in related field or equivalent experience and training in steel/metal work, CAD design, or a related field.

The junior designer is expected to apply standard design techniques under the clear direction of the lead designer or engineer. Tasks will have clear and specified objectives, but will require the investigation of a few variables to provide a design that will meet stated objectives. The incumbent is also required to meet design milestones agreed to with the lead designer or engineer. Documentation of each phase of the design project is required for internal use and transmittal to the customer. Technical competence is necessary for the incumbent to apply current industry accepted technology to meet the project objectives. The junior designer will be required to review the details of each completed task to ensure that his/her work is error free. The positions require working with a variety of industries, clients, and technical issues. The junior designer is required to track budgets for assigned tasks on each project to prevent the project from exceeding its budget. Primary Responsibilities:

Interpret an extensive variety of technical details related to sign design and manufacture (LED layouts, Steel & Aluminum Frame Construction, Basic Wiring, Sheet goods cutting and forming).
Complete engineering drawings and models using Solidworks / AutoCAD / Corel Draw.

Summary/Objective:
