Working independently but supported by others, the incumbent is the die plate designer for our customer's pelletizing systems. Position description: • Creates and Maintains CAD models, detail drawings, bills of material, and shop information packets for machine shop production. • Provides support to CNC Programmers, and Machine Shop. • Helps the Sales Department, and Customer Service Department with questions and requests from customers globally. • Independently reviews specifications for the project. • Determines what items need to be ordered. • Meets tight design deadlines and work OT when required • Leads technical discussions regarding design issues or proposed changes. • Participate in Continuous Improvement efforts such as Kaizen events and problem solving. • Other tasks as assigned by manager. The junior designer is expected to apply standard design techniques under the clear direction of the lead designer or engineer. Tasks will have clear and specified objectives, but will require the investigation of a few variables to provide a design that will meet stated objectives. The incumbent is also required to meet design milestones agreed to with the lead designer or engineer. Documentation of each phase of the design project is required for internal use and transmittal to the customer. Technical competence is necessary for the incumbent to apply current industry accepted technology to meet the project objectives. The junior designer will be required to review the details of each completed task to ensure that his/her work is error free. The positions require working with a variety of industries, clients, and technical issues. The junior designer is required to track budgets for assigned tasks on each project to prevent the project from exceeding its budget. Execution Plan - The junior designer is responsible for aiding in the execution of the Project Execution Plan, communicating areas of risk and delays to the lead/responsible engineer, and sometimes aiding in the development of the Project Execution Plan. At all times during the execution of the project, the junior designer is responsible for aiding in the maintenance of the scope documents, schedule, budget, and quality. The junior designer is responsible for following the project execution plan; this includes updating the lead engineer and/or project manager on the status of upcoming items in the execution plan. Throughout the execution of the project, the junior designer is responsible for reconciling all scope, schedule, and budget issues for their tasks by maintaining the proper project documentation (e.g., CRA, telephone confirmations, meeting minutes, needs lists).     Job DescriptionJewett Automation is seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Designer to assist in the design, development, and implementation of custom automation solutions. The ideal candidate brings 5+ years of hands-on experience designing industrial automation systems, a strong grasp of SolidWorks, and the ability to collaborate across disciplines. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Utilize SolidWorks software to create CAD models for mechanical components and assemblies per Jewett Automation's design standards. Research and specify commercially off-the-shelf components for use in automation system designs Collaborate with project team members to strategically execute project scope. Develop and Assist Sales and Applications departments to accurately estimate the material costs and labor for proposed equipment. Create detailed manufacturing drawings with accurate dimensions and tolerances. Select appropriate materials for machined and fabricated components. Assist Operations with the manufacture of Engineered systems. Troubleshoot automation systems during the debug phase of projects. Perform finite element analyses as required. Collaborate with Electrical and Controls Engineers to ensure machine designs meet requirements. Provide technical support to the Service department and customers. Create documentation for piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID) for projects. Document as-built conditions. Develop machine documentation. Perform all assigned tasks within a predefined amount of time, while following quality limits and safety practices. Conduct quality control checks to ensure products align with company and client standards. Participate in scheduled departmental and project meetings. Collaborate with colleagues to create cohesive and effective products. Identify and suggest productivity and quality improvements to supervisors and engineers. Perform temporary duties and accept responsibilities as assigned. REQUIREMENTS Years of relevant work experience can substitute for a degree or certificate. A bachelor's degree in engineering is preferred. 5+ Years of experience in machine design. Automation machinery preferred. Strong command of SolidWorks 3D CAD software. Experience with 3D printing manufacturing methods. Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T). Familiarity with manufacturing methods for mechanical components and fabrications. Working knowledge of standard power tools and mechanical hand tools. Ability to read electrical and mechanical prints and schematics. Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking, cross-functional environment. Ability to adhere to safety standards. Strong math abilities. Written and oral communication skills. Ability to utilize basic computer applications such as email, Teams, and Windows. Ability to navigate Microsoft software applications (OUTLOOK, EXCEL, WORD, TEAMS) PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to lift at least 50-75 lbs. The junior designer is expected to apply standard design techniques under the clear direction of the lead designer or engineer. Tasks will have clear and specified objectives, but will require the investigation of a few variables to provide a design that will meet stated objectives. The incumbent is also required to meet design milestones agreed to with the lead designer or engineer. Documentation of each phase of the design project is required for internal use and transmittal to the customer. Technical competence is necessary for the incumbent to apply current industry accepted technology to meet the project objectives. The junior designer will be required to review the details of each completed task to ensure that his/her work is error free. The positions require working with a variety of industries, clients, and technical issues. The junior designer is required to track budgets for assigned tasks on each project to prevent the project from exceeding its budget. The junior designer will sometimes meet with customers to discuss design related questions. The junior designer must be able to work with others. Overtime is sometimes required on a project.
