The Lead CNC Machinist is considered a Subject Matter Expert for CNC lathe operations. This position acts as a liaison between Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing Management, and CNC Machinists to ensure all technical and operational standards are documented, understood, and applied daily.
The role of Lead Machinist is to support achieving quality and productivity expectations for each shift's machinists. The Lead CNC Machinist supports production changeovers and recovery, interprets detailed blueprints, ensures quality, and coaches and trains others to do the same.
Responsibilities
Acts as Subject Matter Expert (SME) and trainer for CNC equipment, tooling, and processes.
Supports assigned machinists to meet all quality and productivity expectations.
Serves as key technical contact for CNC machinist training and troubleshooting.
Monitors tool life and ensure tool life standards are being maintained for cost control.
Communicates issues which hinder achievement of quality, productivity, or cost targets.
Ability to operate all equipment in accordance with standard work practices.

Qualifications
Must be a U.S. Citizen due to ITAR regulations.
Machine Tool Technology Degree -or- 5+ years relevant experience in CNC machining.
Familiarity with various types and applications of metrology equipment.
Able to lift 35 lbs. on occasion.
Requires constant standing, walking, sitting, and bending throughout the workday.
Must be able to work in a manufacturing environment, including working in and around moving parts, chemicals, lights/lasers, etc.

Ability to read and interpret work orders, charts and blueprints and specifications, as well as skill and knowledge necessary in utilizing shop math and measuring instruments is required.

5. Maintains area, equipment, and tooling in safe, clean and satisfactory operating condition.
6. Monitors work to ensure that machine is functioning properly.

8. Identify production standards for set-up and machine times
**EXPERIENCE**
1. Minimum of 5 years machining experience including ability to set-up / operate preferred. Strong knowledge of machining, machining practices, tooling, drafting, CNC machines, controls, programming, measuring equipment and techniques.
