Job Description
Nevada Robotics at DRI is hiring part-time college student workers to support educator professional development and STEM education outreach events. Positions - called ROCs (Robotics Outreach Crew) - are located in Reno, NV and may include tasks such as preparing for and working at teacher training workshops, robotics and drone competitions, and STEM school and community outreach events. These hourly student positions will also help support the Robot - Drone -Book Lending Library program by inventorying and setting up robots and drones, and counting, sorting, stickering, and packing books. The positions may include other duties as assigned based on programmatic needs and students' interests.
ROCs work a flexible but consistent semester schedule Monday - Friday between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. doing office work and/or at various times during the evenings and weekends for training, events and competitions. Students will be expected to work 10-15 hours per week and must be available to work some evenings and on Saturdays. ROCs work on site at DRI's Reno campus and at various locations around the community.
This position is open to current NSHE students only. This position may be ideal for education, computer science, or engineering majors, or those students who are interested in learning more about higher education or non-profit organizations. No robotics or drone experience is necessary. Nevada Robotics staff will provide paid training and support for new ROCs. Employment will end upon graduation or loss of student status.

**Full job description**
Under direct supervision, the Tribal Roads Crew Member is responsible for carrying out the objectives of the Washoe Tribe's Transportation Improvement Program; assists with implementation of road projects and field activities; monitors conditions of Tribal roads and facilities; and maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.
**Minimum Qualifications**
- High School Diploma or GED and one year experience working with construction equipment or work that requires physical labor; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must possess a 10 or 30 hour OSHA certificate.
- Must possess and maintain a valid California or Nevada driver's license or capable of obtaining one within thirty days (30) of employment.
- Must be able to be insurable by the Tribe's Driving Policy.
- Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation.
- Preference given to Qualified Native American Indians.
**Essential Duties & Responsibilities**
- Perform as a member of a cohesive team in physical activities needed to complete road repair, maintenance, and construction projects.
- Communicate and receive communications effectively through various means (i.e. radios, hand signals, visual, verbal).
- Communicate and interact with the public in a patient, respectful, and effective manner.
- Handle equipment such as compactors, rollers, augers, concrete/asphalt saws, water pumps, and multiple hand tools (e.g., sledgehammer, shovel, pick).
- Construct fencing and anti-erosion measures.
- Operation of onsite equipment (e.g., backhoe, dump truck, grader).
- Transport, tow vehicles and trailers, etc.
- Wear personal protective equipment (gloves, boots, hard hat, eye protection, safety vests) at all times while performing duties on and off Tribal land.
- Perform duties with a high attention to safety for all crew members and the public.
- Perform other duties as required.
**Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Certifications**
- Knowledge of business English, proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and basic arithmetic.
- Knowledge of basic construction terms.
- Ability to communicate effectively in the English language, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.
- Ability to work under harsh weather and terrain conditions.
- Ability to properly lift and carry up to fifty (50-100) pounds from one location to another.
- Ability to be sensitive to Tribal cultural needs of the communities in which the work is performed.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
**Physical Demands**
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel crouch, or crawl. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and talk or hear. The employee occasionally is required to sit; and taste or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. The employee is frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions.
**Work Environment**
Work is generally performed outdoors at maintenance work sites. Individual may be subject to hazardous working conditions including dealing with heavy equipment, welding materials, flammable materials, and excessive noise. Exposure to natural weather conditions, various dusts and mists, and normal debris and hazards common at construction sites may occur while performing outdoor duties. Situations where safety-toe shoes, safety goggles, gloves, protective face shields, or hardhats are needed may arise. Prolonged standing and walking may be on uneven surfaces or unstable ground. Tight time constraints and multiple demands are common. Travel will be required for training, meetings, conferences, presentations, and other events.
