Responsibilities
Perform computerized tomographic procedures for the diagnosis of disease and injury according to protocols established by radiologists.
Prepare and position patients and select anatomic and technical parameters accurately.
Prepare and administer contrast media and/or medications within the accepted scope of practice and applicable state and federal regulations.
Observe patient during procedure and report abnormal activity. Monitor protocols and recommend updates or refinements as warranted.
Follow radiation safety procedures and guidelines.
Requirements
Licensure / Certification / Registration:
BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
Radiologic Technologist specializing in General Practice credentialed from the Texas Medical Radiologic Technologist Certification Program obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
One or more of the following:
Radiologic Technologist specializing in Radiography credentialed from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Nuclear Medicine or Radiation Therapy specialty also accepted.
Radiologic Technologist specializing in Computed Tomography credentialed from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
Nuclear Medical Tech credentialed from the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. NMTCB(CT) Computed Tomography Specialty Certification or ARRT(CT) Radiologic Technologist specializing in Computed Tomography required in addition to CNMT Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification.
Education:
High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
Additional Preferences
- 2 years CT experience, trauma preferred

Summary:
The CT Tech operates computerized tomography (CT) scanners to produce cross-sectional images of patients' bodies for diagnostic purposes. They prepare patients for the procedure, position patients with considerations for safety and image accuracy, ensure proper imaging protocols are followed, and work closely with radiologists to obtain high-quality images for accurate diagnosis. Essential Work Functions:
Operate CT equipment to produce cross-sectional images of bones, organs, and tissue for diagnostic purposes
Prepare patients for procedures, explain imaging process, and position patients appropriately
Set appropriate technical parameters to accurately demonstrate anatomy and pathology
Provide high-quality images to Radiologist for interpretation
Adhere to radiation safety standards and hospital policies to ensure patient and staff safety
Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of CT equipment to ensure proper functionality
Document patient information, imaging parameters, and procedural details accurately in the hospital's system
Collaborate with radiologists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to deliver timely diagnostic services

Job Summary
The CT Technologist, supervised by a Radiologist, performs CT procedures on patients. A physician or licensed provider requests these procedures to diagnose disease and injury. The technologist follows established protocols.

Performs high-quality CT procedures according to exam protocol in a timely manner. Maintains production and quality by following established standards and procedures.
Demonstrates understanding of radiation dose reference levels and monitoring. Takes action if the estimated dose exceeds set reference levels. Takes action when the reference level is exceeded. This may include patient follow-up.
Demonstrates and understands proper use of iSTAT point of care testing for obtaining creatinine levels.
Utilizes AIDET to communicate with patients. Identifies patient service needs. Ensures the correct exam is performed on the correct patient. Establishes rapport with patients and others. Instructs and communicates with patients and their family about the test. Assesses the patient's ability to tolerate the exam.
Prepares the patient and area for the procedure. Positions the patient, adjusts immobilization devices, and moves equipment into position. Adjusts equipment controls to set exposure factors.
Protects patients and employees by following safety, infection-control, drug, and radiation policies and protocols. Uses proper sterile techniques for invasive procedures. Maintains hand hygiene.
Maintains equipment and work area to meet quality and cleanliness standards. Works with engineers and physicists to ensure optimal equipment operation.
Reports issues to management or the appropriate department. Assists in maintaining supplies inventory. Ensures people are safe to enter by screening them according to approved policies and procedures.
Obtain, verify, and maintain all relevant documentation. This includes requisition/chart, patient history, pregnancy status, shielding precautions, consent forms, policies, and procedures.
