A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A CUSTODIAN As a Custodian, you spend your day providing high quality service by cleaning office furniture, walls, windows, and floors; and empty trash. Your work typically involves performing highly complex custodial work. Coordinating and performing general custodial functions such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, and cleaning windows, light fixtures, and carpets generally fill up your day. Your job is essential to the city, and you assist by cleaning, dusting, and disinfecting areas such as restrooms, offices, and other facilities. You are constantly on your toes and ready for any new and unexpected challenges that may arise in the city. This can include operating floor maintenance equipment, including buffers, strippers, vacuums, and extractors or coordinating minor building repairs, scheduling, movement of office furniture and other items. When you aren't assisting with custodial work, you maintain inventory records of building property, custodial and maintenance tools and equipment, and custodial materials and supplies. You also ensure to perform minor maintenance and repair work on custodial equipment and secure buildings after working hours or as required.
