Reporting Relationship: Depending on the work assignment, interns will report to a VDC Manager, Project Manager, Superintendent, or VDC Engineer. You may be assigned to the office, jobsite or mix of both.
Tasks Assigned: You will be learning how technology enhances construction processes in addition to technical aspects of the project both in the field and in the office. Your experience will include some or all the following:

* 3D Modeling to support various use cases such as:
* Site Logistics Planning

* Interfacing with subcontractors

The Hampton Roads Connector Partners JV (HRCP) consisting of VINCI Construction, Dragados, and Flatiron has been selected to construct the $3.3BN Design Build project -the largest civil construction contract ever awarded by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).
The project scope across a 9-mile section of the I-64 will include: a new 3.5-mile bridge-tunnel crossing that will accommodate a total of 8 lanes of capacity across the water, replacement of the existing marine approach bridges and the addition of a third lane on I-64 in each direction. Principal / Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Research, plan, design, and administer engineering design project applying knowledge of design, construction procedures, zoning and building codes and building materials.
Function as the primary contact coordinating the resolution of problems, reviewing progress, recommending alternatives and advising on project objectives.
Develop or evaluate plans/criteria or special analyses required in support of the design effort. Provide consulting expertise within an area of specialization.
Capture all site feedback on deliverables and provide results back to client's off-site engineers

As a Design Engineer, you will be responsible for creating and refining components or sections of systems, improving product designs, and enhancing manufacturing processes. You will use computer-aided design (CAD) tools such as Inventor, NX, and CATIA to develop and modify designs. This role involves gathering information, conducting studies, performing calculations, and preparing initial layouts and sketches to present design proposals.
You will collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning teams to ensure designs meet manufacturing ease, material availability, and contractual specifications. This role excludes tasks primarily related to drafting.
Qualifications:
Associate's Degree or other 2-year technical degree in a related field and 6 years of relevant experience.
Candidates with an ABET-accredited Bachelor's degree will not be considered.
An Associate's Degree can be substituted with 2 years of related experience, 4 years of non-related experience, or an Apprentice Certificate/Navy Nuclear Power School graduation.
Special Requirements:
Secret Clearance Required: Candidates must be eligible to obtain a clearance upon hire if they do not already possess one.
