Job Description
The Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology (NBMG) at the University of Nevada, Reno is seeking applications for a Development Technician 2. **This position does not provide layoff rights and is contingent upon funding.**
The position will be responsible for field operations in the MAGNET GPS Network that occupies western Nevada, eastern California, and adjacent states. The work includes performing field surveys of GPS stations including moving, setting up and retrieving instruments, downloading data, ensuring accuracy of record keeping and assisting with training students on setting up and deploying new instruments. In addition to field operations, the position will be responsible for maintaining GPS Network instrumentation and equipment by purchasing supplies as needed, performing research to obtain the best materials based on technical needs and cost; file appropriate administrative documents; keep project machinery (e.g. drills, receivers, solar power systems, etc.) in good working order; and keeping the Nevada Geodetic Laboratory spaces organized, clean and secure. Field operations involve travel to and independent problem solving in remote locations throughout the western Great Basin.
The holder of this position will also assist multiple NBMG faculty with their externally funded research projects which involves coordinating and scheduling activities with principal investigators. These projects may include work assisting with warehouse physical sample transport and organization in NBMG offices, field locations, or the Great Basin Science Sample and Records Library. This will include operation of warehouse machinery such as order pickers and pallet jacks. The holder of this position will also maintain the department vehicle pool by coordinating with NBMG administrative staff to ascertain status of maintenance needs approximately monthly.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in electrical or mechanical engineering or related field and one (1) year of experience in the fabrication, maintenance, calibration, repair and modification of a variety of electrical, mechanical and/or computerized equipment and computer systems; OR
Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in electronics or related field and two (2) years of experience in the fabrication, maintenance, calibration, repair and modification of a variety of electrical, mechanical and/or computerized equipment and computer systems; OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
This position requires driving; a driver's license is a condition of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
Applicants who have experience and comfort independently navigating and operating a four-wheel drive vehicle in remote locations are preferred.
Lifting and carrying boxes up to 50 pounds is required at times.
Schedule
The typical work schedule is 40 hours. However, hours may be variable during weekdays when travel for field operations is required, possibly occasionally with some late evenings. Some days may be 10-hour shifts but work hours do not exceed 40 hours per week. During the times when field work travel occurs the schedule is flexible; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.
Travel for field operations is generally less than 4 days per month, but can be more in summer, less in winter.
Compensation
Grade 33
In classified service, salary is in Grade and Step. The Step is determined based on the Nevada Administrative Code. Salary placement above a Step 01 at initial appointment is determined based on the recruitment, the candidate's qualifications, internal equity and budgets. A request to accelerate salary must be approved by Human Resources and abide by the Nevada Administrative Code.

As a Senior Software Engineer at Light & Wonder, you will be a key contributor within a collaborative, global engineering team focused on delivering robust, innovative technology solutions. These solutions support both internal systems and customer-facing products. In this role, you will be responsible for the testing, integration, and validation of software applications, ensuring they meet functional, technical, and regulatory standards.
Essential Job Functions:
Create and manage automated frameworks for cloud infrastructure deployment and management
Develop scripts and use tools to automate repetitive tasks for provisioning, configuration, and management
Monitor performance, diagnose issues, and optimize cloud-based systems for efficiency and scalability
Partner with software engineering, DevOps, and operations to define and implement automation best practices
Work under the supervision of a manager to identify test cases, develop test plans, and execute test scripts for both new and existing game themes and operating systems
Follow detailed requirements and instructions provided by the Manager to ensure accurate and thorough testing
Utilize required databases and tools essential for Software Quality Engineering (Dev Ops) functions and testing processes
Introduction and overview of software test methodologies/procedures and overall product development lifecycle
Assist in reproducing issues to support the software development team in identifying root causes and implementing effective fixes
Utilize all required tools/databases for carrying out necessary functions and testing
Interacts and work successfully with other team members as well as other departments
Qualifications
Years of experience 5 to 8 years
Experience in deriving Dev Ops test plans and test cases from system requirements
Knowledge and experience using Visual Studio
Knowledge and experience with C and/or C++
Knowledge and experience using Linux/Unix
Software Test methodologies and Product Development lifecycle
Automation experience a plus
Gaming industry experience preferred
Proven experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, GCP)
Strong scripting skills in languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Position requires excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with other team members
Good time management and organizational skills
Detailed oriented and capable of working and completing tasks with minimal supervision
Able to work and deliver in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment
Real-time embedded systems and/or gaming experience preferred
JIRA experiences preferred
Experience with Windows desktop applications is required
Agile methodologies preferred
