This Millwright role is responsible for assembling and/or repairing equipment and machinery for the John H. Carter Co., Inc. / ControlWorx, LLC (JHC/CWX) Process Pumps & Equipment business unit. This work may include assembling, removing, repairing, transferring and installing typical petrochemical rotating equipment and machinery, including pumps, blowers, agitators, compressors, etc. Millwright activities may take place in the Geismar equipment repair facility and/or at customer sites, mostly within 100 miles. The incumbent should strive to completely understand the needs and overall goals of both the PPE equipment repair facility and the customer. To be successful, the incumbent must interact and make a personal connection with both internal and external personnel to complete the millwright tasks and deliver quality services. Duties & Responsibilities: * Utilize precision millwright skills and knowledge to disassemble, inspect, diagnose and repair typical petrochemical rotating equipment, including pumps, blowers, agitators, compressors, etc. This may be completed in the field at customer sites or in the Geismar equipment repair facility. * Assemble new rotating equipment for shipment to customers, including precision equipment assembly, coupling and motor installation, equipment alignment, guarding installation, etc. * Field activities may include (but are not limited to) removal and/or replacement of rotating equipment, including baseplate replacement, packing/mechanical seal replacement, precision alignment, etc. * For both shop and field activities, properly document work scope, including all critical dimensions on appropriate as-found/as-left forms * Ability and initiative to potentially manage multiple projects with little oversight * Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment * Available to work overtime and weekends as deemed necessary * Able and willing to work on-call and off shift as required by customers and/or management * Ability to establish strong relationships with customers and fellow employees * Must have a customer service attitude and remain positive in all interactions Certifications, Education and Experience: * Associate Degree, NCCER, or Trade School in craft preferred * Minimum 10 years of hands-on experience in maintenance, repair, and/or assembly of typical petrochemical rotating equipment; Will consider lesser experience depending upon background, exhibited knowledge level, etc. * In-depth, hands-on knowledge of typical petrochemical rotating equipment including (but not limited to) pumps, blowers, agitators, compressors, etc. PLEASE NOTE: John H Carter Company is not accepting unsolicited assistance from search firms/employment agencies for this employment opportunity. Service and repair hydraulic systems including troubleshooting the hydraulic system; inspect, remove and replace hydraulic pumps, motors, valves, cylinders and the accumulator; and remove and replace swivel collector block. 3. Service and repair heating and ventilation systems including diagnose A/C unit problems; conduct pressure test on A/C unit; check for leaks using appropriate devices; check internal system controls; replace compressor; service A/C clutch assembly; and replace compressor seals, refrigerant hose, condenser assembly, receiver dryer, and evaporator core. 4. Troubleshoot and repair winch assemblies. 5. Service and repair the steering system of Company vehicles including repair power steering pump and manual steering gearbox. 6. Service and repair the air brake systems of Company vehicles including air compressors, air brake chambers, and air control valves. 7. Service and repair hydraulic and electric braking systems including inspect and repair master cylinder; test power unit and vacuum supply; inspect power boost system; repair power brake system; and service and repair antilock brake system. 8. Inspect and service differentials and power dividers and transmission assemblies of Company vehicles including manual clutch, manual transmissions and transfer cases, transaxles (front-wheel-drive), and automatic transmissions. 9. Service and repair the fuel and exhaust systems including computer control system; test and repair diesel fuel pump; inspect and service intake and turbo system; service and repair fuel injection system (gas/diesel); and inspect and service governors. 10. Assist others in the diagnosis of more complex problems. 11. Operate Company vehicles and associated equipment and perform duties incidental to the operation of such equipment. 12. Maintain tools, equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition. 13. Maintain records and submit reports as required. 14. Attend and participate in training as assigned and assist in the training of other employees. 15. Perform less skilled work as assigned. 16. Report irregularities and abnormal conditions. 17. Assist employees of equal or higher classification. 18. Direct the work of employees assigned to assist. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education: High school graduate or GED required. Experience: At least 2 years of strong automotive mechanical diagnosis with hydraulic and diesel repair experience. Graduation from an automotive trade school with diesel engine experience is highly desirable. Licenses/Certifications: Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license. Must obtain Class A CDL within 12 months of entry date into the Fleet Technician B classification or vacate the job classification.Must obtain Fluid Power Society Certification and two (2) applicable ASE certifications within 24 months of entry date or vacate the current job classification.
