Job Expectations: • Commitment to AFW's safety policies and procedures and ability to promote awareness. • Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests, identifying worn and damaged parts. • Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades; controlling corrosion; completing winterization procedures. • Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics; completes machine shop operations; making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units. • Verifies vehicle performance by conducting test drives and adjusting controls and systems. • Complies with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards. • Maintains vehicle appearance by cleaning, washing, and painting. • Maintains vehicle records by annotating services and repairs. • Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; and calling for repairs. • Contains costs by using warranty; evaluates service and parts options. • Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock, placing orders, and verifying receipts. • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; and reading technical and regulation publications. • Enhances maintenance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests, exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments. • Ability to conform to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines and effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment. • Must possess excellent time management and organizational skills. • Professional with good communication skills. • Demonstrate a high level of attention to detail and professionalism. Supervision Given and Received: This position has no supervisory responsibilities. This position is supervised directly by the Garage Manager. Physical Demands: • Requires the ability to maneuver in confined and at times congested areas. • Requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, & bend for 8 hours a day. • Requires constant use of arms, hands, fingers, eyes, legs, and back. • Ability to move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing 50-100lbs. • Able to work shifts that are 8-12 hours long. • Ability to work 0 to 35 feet above the ground. • Able to work in various weather conditions.
