    General Description This position is responsible for transporting students in buses on scheduled trips. This includes transporting students from home to school and return home, to and from providers, and any field trips that are scheduled. The driver is to utilize extreme caution in the loading and unloading of passengers, driving safely and maintaining good behavior by the students on the bus. As the driver he/she is responsible for the care and maintenance of the vehicle. This position is responsible for the conduct of the Bus Aide assigned to the bus and should demonstrate courtesy, respect and a positive attitude when relating to children, parents and service providers in the course of his/her duties. This position will also perform ground maintenance and landscaping functions at the campus to maintain its appearance. Examples of Work Performed Drives the students in a safe and prudent manner whenever the schedule directs. Maintains good behavior and order on the school bus, sees that passengers buckle up while driving. Maintains various records concerning trips made, situations that occur, parent consents, mileage, maintenance log, and the general care of the vehicle. Maintains a regular schedule to ensure students arrive at school and/or to arrive at appointments in a timely and coordinately fashion. Maintains and services the use of two-way radio and use professional language. Is accountable for all reports submitted on a daily/weekly basis required for the job. Adheres to and maintains the obligations as described in the Confidentiality Policies of the agency. Monitors assigned facility for physical discrepancies. Makes necessary facility repairs as needed or makes necessary arrangements to have proper credentialed persons to work at assigned facility. Maintains the grounds, grass, shrubbery, trees, walkways, steps and retains walls of the assigned facility. Operates mowers, trucks, edgers, trailers, and other hand tools and hand powered equipment while landscaping. Requests materials necessary for all repairs with supervisor's approval. Attends all training deemed necessary to comply with Texas Child Care Regulation Minimum Standards, and Head Start Performance Standards. Performs other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or Executive Director. Education and Experience Must have a high school diploma or its equivalent. Must have Texas CDL drivers license with endorsement (P) Passenger and of (A) Air Brakes. Must keep a current Region I Bus Driver Certification. Employee will be randomly tested for use of drugs. Need appropriate or correct vision, requires ability to judge distance and space relationship, uses peripheral vision while eyes are fixed, and requires ability to identify and distinguish colors. QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certification: * High School diploma, GED or higher * Certification in forklift and electric pallet jack operation preferred * Must have and maintain a valid Texas Driver's License and be insurable * City of Mission Food Handler Certification * Maintain required Professional Development Standard hours as required by TDA for this position. (Must * obtain within 6 months of employment) Special Knowledge/Skills: * Knowledge of warehouse procedures such as product rotation (FIFO) and inventory process * Ability to operate a standard shift and/or automatic geared vehicle * Ability to meet time sensitive deadlines * Effective communication and interpersonal skills * Ability to communicate in English both written and oral communication Experience: * Previous experience in food delivery/warehousing preferred MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: * Reports all departure and arrival to sites daily by radio. * Establishes rapport with personnel at all delivery sites in order to become an integral part of the overall success of the food delivery system. * Delivers all types of meals to all sites as requested, regardless of assigned route, special diets to any building as needed in a timely manner, and all supplies/chemicals to serving sites as instructed according to safety and sanitation regulations. * Displays professionalism in dealing with managers, campus staff, students and/or parents at all times. * Assists cafeteria staff with putting away all refrigerator/freezer items and the warehouse staff with inventory or product staging as needing. * Follows all inventory procedures and controls with food, merchandise and chemicals. * Properly records, returns, and stores any unused food as instructed. * Prepares any daily reports as may be necessary for accountability. * Returns all signed TRX's, transfers and returns immediately after delivery. * Returns all cookware and cardboard on a daily basis to Production Center as instructed. * Compacts all cardboard returned to the Production Center. * Keeps loading dock area and equipment used clean and orderly on a daily basis. * Maintains a clean and safe operating vehicle. * Reports any repairs or vehicle/equipment malfunctions to the Driver Crew Leader/Warehouse Crew Leader immediately. * Assists the production staff and custodian (as needed) with clean-up such as sweeping, mopping and discarding trash daily as needed. * Wears assigned uniforms with shirt tucked in and wears steel toe shoes provided by the District. * Respects all driving laws and speed limits immediately report any traffic violations or accidents. * Respects federally funded food, equipment and supplies according to TDA/USDA regulations. * Performs all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or others and report accidents immediately. * Performs any other duty as requested by the Superintendent, Child Nutrition Program Director, CNP Assistant Director or Driver Crew Leader or Warehouse Crew Leader.
