Are you ready to apply your technical skills to real-world infrastructure projects? The Village of Schaumburg is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Engineering Intern to join our Engineering Division for the summer. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in municipal engineering, construction management, and infrastructure analysis. This position reports to the Civil Engineer and assists in the implementation of a variety of capital projects and performs technical review and analysis of project design, infrastructure analysis, and construction services. The position is for the summer months typically based on a 35-hour work week.
JOB DUTIES:
1. Assists the Engineering Services Division in new or ongoing projects as directed by the Engineering Division Manager and/or Civil Engineer.
2. Manages the research and implementation of various infrastructure studies including, but not limited to, evaluating the condition of village utilities, such as storm sewers, to determine their conditions and remedial action plan necessary to correct any deficiencies discovered.
3. Assists in the construction management of village public improvement projects.
4. Assists in providing public relations services for various capital improvement projects.
5. Assists in the review and updating of the municipal website construction project updates.
6. Manages various computer applications as assigned.
7. Assists division staff with survey or GPS data collection.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Education equivalent to a high school diploma.
2. In the process of obtaining an associate's, bachelor's, or master's degree in civil engineering or a related field. Educational coursework in civil engineering or a related field.
3. Possession of a valid driver's license and transportation to and from inspection sites.
4. Proficiency with current computer technology, job-specific software, and customer service systems.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Subject to high levels of noise for an extended period.
2. Subject to extremes of temperature for prolonged periods or abrupt temperature changes.
3. Subject to exposure to fumes or disagreeable odors.
4. Subject to inclement weather conditions.
5. Prolonged periods of concentration such as proofreading, geometry calculations, drawing, reading, interpreting blueprints, etc.
STARTING PAY RATE: $30.86 per hour.

Month 1

The compensation range for this role is $18.50 to $20.50 per hour.
