Play a leading role in datacenter site selection and technical due diligence at Amazon. You will lead technical site due diligence projects, partnering with stakeholders across the AWS infrastructure organization, to shape the future of AWS' infrastructure growth and investments. This committed group works to maintain the critical physical infrastructure that supports Amazon Web Services. Specifically, this team works to ensure that the data center's MEP operates at 100% availability while maintaining first-class customer service to the teams and groups within the data centers. The Data Center Chief Engineer (CE) is responsible for ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center is operating at peak efficiency. This involves both planned preventative maintenance of equipment, daily corrective work, and emergency response to emergent issues. The CE serves as an expert technical resource reporting to a site's Data Center Facility Manager and interacting with onsite Engineering Operations Technicians (EOT) and any third party vendors. A day in the life On a typical retro commissioning project, the CxE works across AWS engineering, operations, and contractor teams to coordinate site activities in operational data centers, prioritize tasks, and ensure each issue has clear path to resolution with minimal impact to operations. The CxE manages the project commissioning vendor whose primary scope is to execute functional tests on existing systems, identify optimization opportunities, determine criticality, propose solutions, and document their findings. The CxE coordinates closely with operations teams to schedule work during appropriate maintenance windows. If project completion is at risk, the CxE escalates to the appropriate stakeholders. Upon project completion, the CxE will communicate lessons learned to help peers on similar projects in flight and participate in initiatives that drive improvement to the retro commissioning program. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Execute and Oversee TEMPEST Activities & Compliance: Ensure all TEMPEST Countermeasures Reviews, Visual TEMPEST Inspections (VTIs), and other technical inspections, assessments, evaluations, and reviews are completed accurately and within established timeframes, adhering to National Policy and CTTA requirements. Support the TEMPEST Program: Assist the Certified TEMPEST Technical Authority (CTTA) in implementing and managing the TEMPEST program, which includes analyzing requirements and developing processes to control or mitigate compromising emanations from equipment and facilities. Provide Expert TEMPEST Guidance and Assistance: Offer advice and support to customers by collecting necessary information for the TEMPEST mission (e.g., drawings, wiring diagrams, equipment specifications) and assisting with online workflow requests, checklists, and Protective Distribution System (PDS) requests.
