POSITION SUMMARY:
The Merchandise Planner is responsible for planning and managing assigned departments through an entire lifecycle. This includes creating pre-season plans, quarterly investment review and in-season business management. This position will forecast sales, markdowns, and inventory levels on a regular basis to optimize sales, margin and return on investment. Identify risks and opportunities to the business and develop action plans in partnership with their merchandising partner. Develop meaningful historical sales recaps in order to make more sound decisions on future seasons.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Create seasonal sales, inventory, and profit plans for assigned departments
Develop and present quarterly investment strategy at item and color level in partnership with Merchandising and aligned with strategic objectives of the brand
Own open to buy process for assigned departments, projecting business results and developing action items to maximize the business
Analyze weekly sales, margin and inventory based on current trends. Manage appropriate in-stock positions of key products and action slow-sellers with markdown plan
Project for capacity and raw materials production in replenishment items
Mentor, train and develop junior members of the team. Potential for direct report of planning analyst
Analyze size selling and implement appropriate recommendations
Run and analyze reports in order to react to current business trends as well as anticipate future business trends
Identify and communicate opportunities and risks in the current plan based on factual data
Build a relationship with cross-functional team to meet deliverables in an efficient manner
Create Reports that will simplify decision making for the brand using sound and consistent approach
Become a power user of internal assortment planning tool and sales reporting tool
Responsible for execution of purchase orders and markdowns
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's Degree
5+ years of retail buying, planning or financial experience
Strong proficiency of Excel; strong command of retail math concepts and applications
Highly motivated and results oriented; sense of ownership and intellectual curiosity
Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships
Ability to thrive in an ambiguous, fast-moving and evolving environment
Demonstrated ability to problem-solve and think critically
Excellent verbal and written communication skills

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of 10 years of progressive merchandising experience within the apparel industry, preferably in women's categories.
Proven track record of leading merchandising teams within a branded retail business of significant volume and scale. Experience in both digital and catalog merchandising preferred.
Strategic, results-driven leader with strong business acumen and the ability to influence cross-functional teams.
