Our Teaching Fellowship Program is a highly-selective, school-based training program that empowers aspiring educators with the training, skills, and experiences needed to become highly effective teachers. The ideal candidate is committed to improving educational outcomes in traditionally underserved communities.
Teaching Fellows hold full-time teaching positions, supporting Lead Teachers in the classroom, providing small-group instruction, administrative duties, and substitute teaching. Throughout the year, Teaching Fellows take on increasing levels of responsibility to prepare them to lead their own classrooms. At the end of the fellowship, Teaching Fellows will have the opportunity to interview for a Lead Teacher role for the upcoming school year.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Uphold the mission and vision of the school every second of every day.
Execute school-wide systems and structures that maximize student learning.
Provide substitute teaching coverage for teachers within the school.
Support students by providing one-on-one and small group tutoring and small group intervention.
Help Lead Teachers with instruction, assessments, grading, and other classroom responsibilities.
Meet regularly with a coach to implement feedback on lessons and instruction.
Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
Participate in collaborative curriculum development, grade-level activities, and school-wide functions.
Actively participate in professional development sessions and weekly coaching sessions, including orientation and training during the summer.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree required; a background in education is not required, though candidates should show a demonstrated passion for working with Pre-K through 12 students.
Previous success working with second language learners and scholars from diverse backgrounds
Native Spanish fluency is desired but not required.
Ability to be flexible, adaptable and positive in a fast-paced environment.

Purpose
CARE is a program of The Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC). CMHC provides a full range of university mental health services including time-limited individual therapy, group therapy, program development and outreach, psychiatric assessment and treatment, integrated healthcare, urgent care, case management services. Training and supervision are provided to psychology and social work interns, psychiatric residents, and psychology practicum students. The center's large, multidisciplinary staff includes psychologists, social workers, psychiatrists, and licensed professional counselors.
Counselors in Academic Residence Program (CARE), is a unique program of the Counseling and Mental Health Center that embeds licensed mental health providers within all colleges and schools to provide mental health services for undergraduate and graduate/professional students. This position may provide mental health services on location in the College of Natural Sciences.
CARE Coordinators provide the following:
* Short-term individual counseling, case management and workshops for students.
* Consultation for staff and faculty regarding specific students of concern.
* Crisis response to student experiencing mental health crisis.
* Mental health trainings relevant to their CSU.
* Participation academic staff meetings and wellness programming.
* Post-traumatic event consultation for faculty and staff and support for student groups, classes, and individuals.
Join our team of counselors as we provide short-term mental health services in an embedded counseling model. We collaborate with colleges/schools/programs across campus to decrease barriers for students struggling academically for mental health reasons. In addition to counseling, we provide workshops and consultation.
Responsibilities
As CARE Coordinator, you will use your expertise to support the students enrolled in the College of Natural Sciences at UT Austin. You will provide short-term individual and group counseling and outreach to students who seek services with our program. Outreach activities may include presentations to student enrolled in your supported school(s), campus partners, supervision and training of social work / psychology interns and post-doctoral psychology practicum students, and development of training materials used within your area.
Provide short-term individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, and case management, to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in a specific school or college at UT Austin.
* Conduct initial assessments of students' presenting concerns. Conduct short-term counseling with students referred for service.
* Maintain timely, accurate, and complete documentation of all service contacts as required by center policies and procedures.
* Develop and implement a good blend of programmatic interventions which address the psycho-social mental health needs of students in the designated population or issue.
* Identify group assignment preferences and propose/develop new groups, as appropriate.
* Initiate advertising/recruitment and screening for group.
* Facilitate groups in accordance with service agreement.
* Demonstrate knowledge about group counseling and/or seek appropriate training.
Reviews client record to determine the progress, effectiveness, and appropriateness of treatment services offered. Maintains current, accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with state and federal law, professional ethics, and Counseling and Mental Health Center, CMHC, policies. Coordinates referrals between CMHC and university or community service providers.
Provide clinical consultation to others on an as-needed basis and seeks consultation when appropriate. Provide urgent care services as necessary to students.
* Works collaboratively and cooperatively with other mental health professionals on CMHC's multidisciplinary staff and other university departments and organizations
* Develops linkages with key contacts of the designated population for the purpose of developing and implementing programmatic interventions which generate substantial participation by students
Provide outreach and support to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in a specific school or college at UT Austin and campus partners.

Professional Counselor:
* Licensed to practice independently as a professional counselor in Texas

Required Qualifications:
* Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in subject matter (or 24+ credit hours in applicable subject matter with other degree)

Preferred Qualifications
* Masters degree from an accredited college or university in subject matter or education.
* 2+ years teaching/education experience.
Essential Functions:
* Prepare and facilitate subject and grade specific lesson plans.
* Provide subject instruction on a higher level than grade-standard in an interactive learning environment to achieve exceptional results for all students.
* Implement the BASIS Curriculum by designing effective and creative lessons and assessments to ensure students' education is internationally competitive.
* Collaborate with other BASIS Curriculum teachers to further develop curriculum/subject material and build a community of like-minded professionals passionate about education.
* Tutor students in content-specific knowledge and skills to heighten the trajectory of students' academic and career success.

* Support the execution of non-instructional functions, such as Early Bird, Late Bird, and lunch.
