Choose the proper size and material of construction for the application. Operates mobile equipment such as forklifts, boom trucks and cranes. Uses machines and equipment such as various hand and power tools, welding apparatus, pipe threaders, mobile and rigging equipment and personal computer. Wears specialized PPE such as full-face respiratory protection and chemical protection clothing as required. Job activities involve working near molten metal, steam, high pressure and temperature fluids and gases, high voltage electricity, heavy machinery and equipment, below ground, various gases, toxic chemicals, confined spaces, hazardous materials, in high locations (up to 100 feet), congested areas and lifting up to 50 pounds. The Commercial Refrigeration Pipefitter is responsible for installing, assembling, fabricating, and maintaining piping systems associated with commercial refrigeration equipment, including supermarket rack systems, walk-in coolers/freezers, and industrial refrigeration applications. This role ensures all piping work meets industry standards, safety regulations, and manufacturer specifications to support efficient, reliable system performance. Key Responsibilities: Installation & Fabrication Install, align, measure, and secure refrigeration piping systems for new construction, remodels, and equipment replacements. Fabricate and assemble copper, steel, or other refrigeration piping using brazing, soldering, threading, or welding techniques. Lay out and plan routing of piping in coordination with refrigeration technicians, electricians, and contractors. Install valves, fittings, hangers, supports, and insulation according to code and project specifications. System Support & Testing Perform pressure testing, evacuation, and charging assistance for refrigeration systems. Ensure all piping connections are leak-free and meet EPA, mechanical code, and company standards. Support start-ups and commissioning with refrigeration technicians as needed. Maintenance & Repairs Inspect piping systems for wear, corrosion, vibration issues, or damage. Repair or replace defective piping, valves, fittings, and insulation. Respond to service calls involving piping failures or refrigerant leaks. Safety & Compliance Follow all OSHA, EPA, and company safety protocols for refrigerants, hot work, ladders, and confined spaces.
