    The Residential Cross Connection Inspector is responsible for protecting the public drinking water supply from contamination by identifying and evaluating actual or potential cross-connections within residential plumbing systems. The inspector conducts thorough inspections to ensure compliance with the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) Water Bureau Cross Connection Control Regulations, as mandated by the Safe Drinking Water Act, Act 399. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1.Conducts residential surveys at a minimum of 2,900 inspections annually at homes to identify and assess potential cross connections and hazards, such as those from garden hoses, irrigation systems, swimming pools, boilers, water softeners, toilet assemblies and water assisted sump pump systems, or any other systems connected to the water system. 2.Ensures proper installation, maintenance, of backflow prevention assemblies. 3. Issues permits for required devices and notify homeowners of any violations, including the necessary corrective actions to bring the property into compliance. 4.Develops and maintains accurate electronic records (database) of backflow prevention device locations, testing, repairs, and other pertinate information. 5.Conducts an annual review meeting to discuss overall program status and recommendations. 6.Provides up to four (4) ASSE approved hose bib vacuum breakers or anti-frost hose bib vacuum breakers, (i.e. combination) per facility as required, to place a facility into immediate compliance at the time of inspection. 7.Educates property owners, residents, and contractors on cross-connection control requirements. 8.Develops and maintains homeowner inspection schedules to ensure all residential properties are inspected on time and in compliance with regulations. 9.Prepares and submits EGLE compliance reports to ensure adherence to state environmental and water quality regulations. 10.Responds to customer inquiries and complaints regarding water quality or service, providing timely and accurate information. 11.Coordinate with plumbing inspectors, contractors, and water utility personnel as needed. 12.Ensures compliance with current plumbing codes, regulations, and industry standards 13. May assist with or observe sampling, flushing, or testing related to system integrity, and water quality. 14.Ensures compliance with City of Flint policies and Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) regulations. 15.Builds and maintains positive relationships with water customers and local businesses to enhance community engagement and satisfaction. 16.Other related duties as required. MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS 1.At least three (3) years of full-time experience managing or administering a cross-connection control program. 2.High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Additional coursework or technical training in plumbing, mechanical systems, water distribution, or HVAC preferred. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: 1.Possession and maintenance of a valid Michigan Driver's License and acceptable driving record. 2.Possession and maintenance of a Cross-Connection Control Specialist certification or Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester certification from a recognized authority (e.g., ABPA, AWWA, or ASSE). A Licensed plumber is preferred. 3.Ability to obtain an S-4 Limited Water Treatment License within two (2) years of employment. 4.Must be able to perform physical tasks associated with inspections, including accessing mechanical rooms, rooftops, basements, and confined spaces. Driving Record Requirement Applicants must have a safe and responsible driving record.
