PRIMARY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY Summer Camp: anticipated percentage up to 60% Hire, supervise, plan and run Bainbridge campus summer camp Coordinate camp policy with urban camp counterpart and Registrar Oversee camp budget and business plan Schedule, orient, train and supervise Artists-In-Residence for school or communityeducation programs Emergency substitute for SOP as needed Occasional SOP coordinator support when needed Some Community Education support in evenings and weekends for programs Work as a liaison between IT department and campus education team for any IT platforms used by programs, with a focus on work systems and efficiencies. Oversee scheduling, delivery, and staffing of all campus day programs during the school year, including possible grant reporting and management. Curriculum/Program Execution: Ensures that culturally responsive curriculum is being implemented. Examines program design and delivery for implicit bias and supports positive solutions. Supports ongoing development of curriculum in partnership with other education staff Ensures that all program equipment, facilities, and grounds are used appropriately Partners with the Garden Manager in use of the garden as a teaching tool Safety: Participates in First Aid and other safety trainings. Responds to First Aid needs within the scope of their training. Ensures Incident Reports are submitted in a timely manner. Other duties as assigned by supervisor. The goals for the program are to help students: Develop a sense of place in the Pacific Northwest: Learn how to contribute as members of teams; Practice problem solving; Take physical, emotional, and social risks; Learn the fundamentals of ‘wilderness' backpacking and camping and leave no trace protocols. Responsibilities The outdoor biking trip leader is one of two or three adults to co-lead, co-manage, and execute all aspects of the trip for a group of nine to eleven students. Ability to:• Lead a small team with limited supervision• Supervise campers unaccompanied for periods of time• Ensure campers of all ages and from diverse backgrounds are welcomed and served in a manner that makes their experience positive, memorable and consistent with the Pacific Science Center's mission, vision, and values • Approach each interaction individually and without expectation or judgment of content knowledge, level of interest, or background in science • Remain calm in fast-paced environments• Take initiative and act independently, as well as within a team • Quickly learn and apply new content, policies, and procedures • Maintain safety and security procedures at all times QualificationsRequired• Demonstrated teaching experience and classroom management skills, solid problem solving and decision-making skills• High School Diploma or equivalent experience• At least 18 years of age at the start of camp • Attending and completing training sessions before start of summer camps• Experience working with youth from grades Pre-K - 8th • First Aid/AED/CPR certification or willingness to obtain• WA State Food Handlers permit or willingness to obtain• Available to work a minimum of 6 full weeks of the summer season (June 22-August 28) Preferred• Associate's/Bachelor's degree (or currently in pursuit) or equivalent experience• Informal education experience• Past summer camp experience• Passion for science education and early child development • Available to work all 10 weeks of the summer season (June 22-August 28) Physical Demands & Working Conditions• This is a temporary, full-time summer position that begins before the start of camps • Due to a variety of camps and location, hours can vary daily, typically totaling 40 hours per week during the camp season • Some camps are full day while others are half day, this position remains full-time • A uniform t-shirt is provided and required to be worn while on the job The workplace environment can vary but will typically involve the ability to travel with a group of students and staff throughout classroom, outdoor, camp, community, and museum spaces. Travel is sometimes required to accommodate various camp activities. Other physical demands of the position could include the ability to stand/walk/sit, lift 50 lbs. (lunch/material tubs - unassisted), kneel/squat/bend/reach, carry/climb (will often load, unload and carry cartloads of lesson materials and supplies), work outside in the weather including heat/cold, and exposure to dust, fumes, chemicals (liquid nitrogen, helium and hydrogen gas, dry ice, acids and bases, irritants, latex).
