Overview:
As a Bus Driver - Trainee, you will be responsible for safely transporting students to and from school and related activities. This part-time position requires a Commercial Driver License (CDL) with a Passenger and School Bus endorsement. Responsibilities:
* Report consistently for work as scheduled
* Perform other duties as assigned
* Attain proficient or higher evaluations on established Performance Standards
* Attend training and in-service meetings
* Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections as required
* Consult with supervisors and/or dispatch staff members on route modifications
* Ensure that all safety rules and regulations are followed
* Identify and report mechanical malfunctions to appropriate staff members
* Keep current with applicable local, federal, and state regulations and laws governing the operation of school transportation vehicles
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date transportation paperwork
* Maintain cleanliness and orderly appearance of district vehicles
* Maneuver and secure wheelchairs
* Perform simulated or actual emergency evacuations of all vehicle occupants
* Prepare accurate directions for each assigned route and include specific map-based instructions
* Prepare work orders and reports/solve maintenance and mechanical problems before they become emergencies
* Safely secure students in safety vests, car seats, or seat belts
* Stay current with student behavioral management techniques
* Successfully complete road skills test, skills course, and written evaluations
* Supervise loading and unloading of buses
* Transport students, on scheduled school days established by the district, to and from the school and related activities safely and efficiently
Qualifications:
* High school graduate or equivalent
* Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
* Ability to drive and operate a school bus safely
* Ability to follow oral and written instructions
* Ability to recognize safety issues in the workplace
* Ability to work days, hours, locations, and assignments as directed by the supervisor within the position responsibilities
* Ability to work independently without direct supervision
* Strong organizational, interpersonal, written, listening, and verbal communication skills
