Position Overview:
The purpose of this position is to provide technical assistance and supportive patient care to meet the needs of individual patients throughout assigned areas. Responsible for the collection and analysis of laboratory specimens and subsequent result reporting according to laboratory protocol and procedures. Acts as general supervisor over assigned lab activities.
Essential Job Functions:
Performs tasks, duties and/or complex tests in all areas of the laboratory assigned according to established laboratory protocols and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, COLA accreditation requirements and hospital standards.
Collects and processes specimens utilizing protocols and technical knowledge.
Performs quality control, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting protocols to ensure proper functioning of instruments, reagents, procedures.
Validates and delivers results of tests performed and assists with all technical troubleshooting and quality assurance issues.
Follows established safety practices including biohazards, exposure control plan (blood-borne pathogens), infection control to include standard precautions, employee right to know (hazardous chemicals), and chemical hygiene standard and maintains required documentation for compliance with federal, state, and local, regulations.
Assist with performing proficiency testing for each test to include corrective action when necessary.
Develop and foster collaboration among clinical departments and affiliated services to ensure an integrated and coordinated approach to providing laboratory services and resolution of customer complaints or problems.
Coordinate and perform all pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic laboratory activities in collaboration with the Laboratory Director and Technical Consultant
Assist with patient care and other activities within the scope of state license and/or regulations. May include, but not limited to, phlebotomy, IV starts, initiating EKGs, vital signs, height and weight, intake and output, pulse oximetry and superficial wound care.
Provide for patient safety related to age and condition
Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality of information and records at all times
Provide and maintain a clean, safe environment and perform and/or assist others to perform proper aseptic technique, isolation procedures, and infection control measures
Assist with the admission, transfer, and discharge of the patient
Other Job Functions:
Prepare patients and chaperone during examinations/procedures or assists with other patient treatments
Maintain lab and all patient care areas with appropriate supplies
Assist with patient restraints and maintain precautions; collect, report and document data related to patient needs/emergencies and unusual patient and family behavior
Travel to all facility locations as required
Attend staff meetings or other company sponsored or mandated meetings as required
Perform additional duties as assigned
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Biological/Physical Sciences or Medical Laboratory Science, required
Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross, required

Under general supervision performs a variety of routine and specialized technical procedures in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory/Interventional Radiology Department. Assists physicians in the performance of cardiovascular diagnostic testing and other therapeutic/interventional procedures in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory.
Principal Responsibilities And Tasks

If certified by ARRT: Operates fluoroscopy, digital angiography equipment, applying ionizing radiation to cardiology patients in accordance with standard operating procedures and according to departmental policies and procedure
Operates hemodynamic assessment tools to include cardiac output, blood gas analyzers, oxygen consumption analyzers, and patient monitoring equipment such as blood pressure cuffs, electrocardiogram and pulse oximeters to measure the various vital functions during the procedure.
Operates procedural equipment to include but not limited to: Intravascular Ultrasound, Fractional Flow Reserve, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps, Impella, Anglo-Jet, Power Injector.

Administrative Responsibilities
* Work with the OT Program Director to develop and manage the OT lab budget.
* Maintain accurate records of equipment, supplies, and lab use.
* Collaborate with vendors regarding equipment purchase, service, and training.
* Assist in scheduling lab and simulation sessions across the OT curriculum.
* Ensure compliance with institutional policies, FERPA, Title IX, and ACOTE standards.
* Participate in departmental meetings and serve on assigned OT Program committees.
* Participate and provide data for accreditation purposes.
Requirements:
Qualifications
* Associate Degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
* Current certification by NBCOT as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA).
* Licensed or eligibility for Maryland licensure as an OTA.
* Minimum of 2 years of clinical practice experience as a COTA.
* Experience in OT education, lab instruction, or student mentorship preferred.
* Knowledge of simulation or lab-based teaching environments a plus.
* Excellent/strong oral and written communication skills.
* Excellent interpersonal and team collaboration abilities.
* Capacity to work effectively in a team environment and work well independently.
* Capacity to organize, prioritize, and coordinate multiple projects and schedules.
* Technological proficiency, including simulation/lab equipment, instructional platforms, and Microsoft Office.

Physical Characteristics
* This position requires sitting and standing for long periods of time, as well as some bending and stooping when working in the laboratory. This position does have some limited lifting involved but not more than 40 pounds at a time. Quite a bit of finger/hand dexterity, and walking is involved in regard to lab work and computer work.
* Ability to set up, take down, and maintain equipment and lab spaces.
* Manual dexterity required for handling simulation devices and computer-based systems.
* Must be able to work flexible hours including day and/or evening shifts as needed.
* Ability to spend the majority of the workday in an inside classroom, lab, and simulation environment.
* Visual ability to perform close-up work on screens and physical materials.
* Stand, sit, walk, bend, stoop, use hand/eye coordination, finger dexterity, reach overhead, lift up to 40 pounds, and move equipment.
* Able to convey complex information to students and colleagues in both instructional and technical settings.
Working Conditions
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely working in a clinical, skills lab and normal office environment with moderate exposure to adverse conditions. The employee may be exposed to potentially infectious materials such as blood or other bodily fluids in the delivery of routine medical services. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.
