Purpose
Ability to machine, mill, and grind various types of metals. Primarily 1st shift schedule, could include 2nd, 3rd, split shifts, weekends, holidays, 12 hour shifts. Daily work activity is directed by the Group Leader and a Maintenance Machinist A. Reports directly to the department Manager.
Job Responsibilities
Performs all tasks under general supervision.
Provides training and assistance to less experienced Machinists.
Assumes ownership of work task and demonstrates initiative to get work completed.
Creates and reworks machinery and equipment components according to requisition documentation, blueprints, or other drawings.
Sets up equipment operation feed, speed and temperature.
Follows established procedures for operating various conventional and/or CNC (computerized numerical control) manufacturing equipment for tasks such as cutting, punching, forming, drilling, tapping, turning, milling, grinding, and stamping to fabricate, form or shape manufactured parts, tools or parts assemblies from raw materials.
Selects and measures raw materials and parts to specifications to prepare for production processing.
Performs reworking and machining of new and spare production parts for departments.
Repairs maintenance parts as needed.
Verifies the accuracy of work by using calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, and various measuring instruments.
Order and maintain project related material as required.
Assist with keeping neat and orderly records on work performed and repairs made.
Work with Engineering, Production Team Leads, Managers, Group Leaders, and fellow tradesmen to accomplish the desired result.
Adjust schedule and work hours to accomplish the desired result, must be able to work weekends and holidays as required.
Perform work assignments efficiently while being consistent with good safety practices.
Report any maintenance and/or safety issues to supervisor.
Review, understand, and follow all Company specifications and procedures, and regulatory rules and requirements that are associated with the performance of this job.

Basic Requirements
Must pass the skilled trade assessment test for this position.

General Description:
The Live Tool CNC Lathe Operator is responsible for the setup, operation, and maintenance of Doosan CNC lathes equipped with live tooling and Fanuc controls to produce precision-machined components. OGS Machining is a CNC Job Shop that is currently looking for a full-time CNC Lathe Setup position for 1st Shift. Standard shop hours are (4) ten-hour days - Mon-Thurs. 6:00am - 4:30 pm, with occasional overtime on Fridays as needed. OGS Machining is a medium-volume, production job shop whose average machining order is 100 - 500 pcs. 75% of our jobs are made from bar stock with the remaining 25% are machining castings or billet. All parts can easily be held in your hand, no cranes or material handling equipment are necessary. The majority of our CNC turning equipment is less than 4 years old, and state-of-the-art. We are actively growing and acquiring new customers and new work - our goal is to more than triple our sales and capacity within a decade.
Job Summary
Responsible for set-up, programming and operation of CNC lathes from 2-axis chuckers to 9-axis mill-turn machines.
Essential Functions
Setup CNC lathes for production machining.
Prove out and inspect first piece for each setup.
Troubleshoot, edit, and optimize existing programs to ensure efficient overall production.
Assist other operators in the department as necessary.
Document new program changes and processes to ensure setups can be duplicated and overall production time is optimized.
Oversee the quality of parts produced in the machining cell.
Efficiently manage tooling and workholding inventory for the department.
To be proactively aware of work load and plan tooling requirements for future jobs ensuring minimum downtime.
To make most efficient use of machinery and equipment, including the use of proper feeds and speeds, cutter compensation and modern programming strategies.
Inspect and deburr parts to ensure they meet blueprint specifications using proper measuring instruments. Take ownership of the quality of parts you produce.
Help produce jigs and fixtures that improve productivity
Use skill and caution to prevent damage to machinery and equipment (crashes, etc)
Perform basic preventative maintenance on machinery, and keep your work area clean and tidy.
Follow all safety policies and procedures.

Skills and Requirements
At least 5 years experience of working unaided on setting up and operating multi-spindle / multi-turret CNC lathes in a job shop environment.
A solid understanding of CNC programming structure, tooling theory, and speeds / feeds for various materials.
Fluency in reading and writing G&M code. CAM programming experience is a bonus.
Previous experience with Fanuc controls preferred.
Previous experience with Doosan turning and machining centers is helpful (but not required) - we own a twin-turret Puma TT2100SYY, and a sub-spindle Lynx 2100LYSB, both with Y-axis and live milling.
Must be able to identify critical blueprint dimensions and how to inspect/ check these critical dimensions. Strong GD&T skills a plus.
Possession of own measuring tools / gages is a plus - our QC department can provide gages as needed, and will calibrate any/all personal gages owned by the employee.
Ability to work on a wide variety of complex parts from drawings.
Ability to change and adapt work behaviors based on a constantly changing production schedule.
