Job Title: Machine Operator Department: Production JOB PURPOSE Operate ring twister, 2 for 1 twister, assembly winders Check specification for supply yarn, ring twister/winder set up and twisted/finished product requirements Unpack supply yarn and visually inspect packages for defects Load supply yarn into creel/pot Place supply yarn packages under rewinder position String supply yarn from creel to twister String each ring twister/2:1/rewinder position Run test positions and deliver to lab Verify proper construction (number of ends) at the start and end of each doff Start ring twister/2:1/rewinder and run specified doff cycle Doff full pirns/twisted/rewound packages from each ring twister/2:1/rewinder position onto buggy Visually inspect twisted/rewound packages, downgrade any not meeting specification Label pirns and buggy, twisted/rewound packages per specification Transport buggies/finished goods box to designated area Pack twisted/rewound packages into box per specification and transport to 2:1 area Complete and sign all required paperwork including: Production/Quality form Maintenance Request form Production Ticket (Buck Slip) Perform any creel duties necessary to restart twister/rewinder Remove scrap and clean twister/rewind area Hours 3:00PM-11:30PM REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The Material Prep Machine Operator sets up and operates material prep machines, such as saws, iron-worker, shear, press brake, grinders, NC torch tables, plasma torches, lathe, knee mill, radial arm drill and beveling operations with minimal supervision. 2nd shift hours are 3:00 pm - 1:30 AM. Responsibilities * Sets up and operates material prep machines. * Utilizes charts and table for calculations related to part setup and tooling. * Reads various machinist measuring tools and gauges, such as machinist scales, micrometers and calipers. * Operates overhead cranes as required. * Responsible for keeping machines and surrounding area clean and tools stored in their designated places. * Recognizes when machinery is not properly adjusted and makes adjustments as required. * Locates tools, parts and materials for upcoming production. * Interprets and performs minor program edits as required in order to produce a quality product. * Accurately perform inventory audits. Competencies * High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or 1 year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. * Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals including the metric system. * Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings. * Demonstrated knowledge of shop mathematics and speed/feeds for metal cutting will be required. * This position is performed on three (3) shifts. * Available to work weekends and overtime. Feed envelope blanks into machine using proper fanning techniques and maintaining proper level of blanks. Check the quality of the finished envelopes throughout the job by following company quality control procedures and notify adjusters of any issues. Assemble cartons for packing of envelopes. Follow company procedures for filling out labels and label the cartons. Pack finished envelopes into cartons and follow procedures for stacking on skids. Assist machine adjusters with clearing jams, troubleshooting, maintenance, and job setup. Keep envelope folding machine and area around machine neat & clean. Fill out production paperwork and pull samples as directed. Follow company procedures for machine down time. Communicate with outgoing shift and incoming shift regarding equipment status, job status, and any other relevant information. Duties include standing for most of the shift, repetitive hand & wrist motions, reaching with hands and arms, regular lifting of up to 25 pounds, and possibly working overtime.
