Packaging Machine Operator
SHIFT: M-Th 6am-4:30pm (Hours may vary)
The basic function of the Machine Operator is to perform all operational functions on the machines to achieve production goals on a daily and annual basis. Incumbent performs necessary functions in order to efficiently, safely, and correctly process materials in preparation for cooking or for packaging.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties and responsibilities of this position shall consist of, but not be limited to, the following:
Manage start-up to make sure equipment is in proper operating condition.
Set-up, operate, and perform change-over procedures of machine in accordance with operating standard protocols and machine settings.
Change rolls (of film, zipper, scavengers, stickers, etc.) in a timely manner to minimize down time and lost material.
Partner with Maintenance to minimized downtime. Communicate effectively with Maintenance personnel to prevent and address any machine malfunctions. Help complete basic troubleshooting or repair. Complete basic preventative maintenance.
Continually strive to maximize productivity and efficiency while decreasing waste and work at full capacity.
Ability to assemble and de-assemble machine.
Perform necessary checks at start of shift and at each new product; document on paperwork, code date, correct label, upper/lower film, etc.
Follow daily production schedule and achieve specified goals.
Ensure quality protocols & SOPs are followed and openly communicate with FSQ in order to fix defects to ensure quality standards are consistently met.
Ensure product conforms to specifications (i.e. weights & lengths) by performing periodic checks on output.
Ensure products are correctly labeled and identified for proper disposition.
Prevent and minimize rework and/or inedible.
Record daily production paperwork, process monitors, and daily run logs sheets completely and accurately.
Monitor workflow to maximize machine output efficiencies.
Keep hard supplies for batch run, such as combos and v-mags stocked in the area.
Accurately document all ingredients used and maintain a stock of necessary materials.
Ensure Team Members working on line are efficient and completing work safety and with quality in mind
Clearly communicate work assignments, directives, and expected outcomes with line personnel.
Ensure all associates on your line understand and follow all policies and standard operating procedures.

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES:
1. Certifications and Training:
a. Review and comprehend instructions on the Quality Requirement Sheet (QRS)
b. Train as Product Auditor and cover as necessary
c. Complete Machine Operator Front and Machine Operator Back training
d. Operate pallet jack
e. Achieve walk behind electric stacker certification, operate, and perform and record inspections
f. Achieve lockout/tagout certification
2. Area of Responsibility:
a. Responsible for up to 5 (five) thermoformers when carrying out Front responsibilities
b. Responsible for up to 8 (eight) thermoformers when carrying out Back responsibilities
c. Responsible for up to 3 (three) thermoformers when carrying out Front and Back responsibilities
3. Maintain workflow, as to not disrupt production; reducing downtime:
a. Stock machine centers with raw materials
b. Monitor staged material stock levels
c. Perform plastic roll change
d. Perform wipe outs as necessary
e. Log all material rolls in the roll log/scrap report as used
f. Monitor scrap levels and remove scrap plastic from machines and transport to designated areas
g. Palletize shipping containers
h. Transport finished product to designated areas
i. Prepare materials to be returned to inventory
j. Perform setup of minor equipment (i.e. tapers)
4. Safety:
a. Perform general housekeeping duties and maintain safe work area.
b. Keep area clean and organized per food safety standards.
c. Resolve safety issues and report them immediately to your manager/supervisor.
5. Communication:
a. Contact the Production Lead or Supervisor when a thermoformer will be down for a prolonged period of time to ensure reassignment of product auditor(s) in a timely manner
b. Communicate all information at shift hand off to the incoming operator
c. Communicate needs to warehouse personnel for material, cardboard boxes, and scrap bin removal to ensure optimal running of the manufacturing lines
6. Maintain all operator reports and keep record of material data
7. Assist in OTJ training
8. All other duties as assigned

JOB SUMMARY: The primary purpose of a Technician is to read and understand coating recipes, produce chocolate and coating in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) procedures, and safety procedures, and also display competency in material handling. North Plant:
Mixing: Read recipe and add ingredients to mixer or bulk tank by hand and by using the plant control system (PCS).

Refining: Prepare and operate the pre-refiner, refiners, and conches to achieve desired fineness and viscosity.
South Plant:
Chipline: Operate chipline depositor and troubleshoot color, shape, and size issues on finished products. Read, interpret, and mix bases, flavors, and dyes to meet product specifications. Packaging: Operate all packaging equipment to ensure product meets customer standards and complete all required paperwork and checks.
Sanitation: Utilize correct cleaning procedures to complete production and non-production cleaning responsibilities. Set up, tear down, and clean tanks, pipes, pumps, and plates.
Train and certify in the areas noted above within the designated time frames.
Make mixes and operate drum and pail filling equipment.
Inspect product for color, shape, size, flavor, and viscosity issues.
Read and interpret production and distribution schedules.
Understand and display competency in using the plant control system (PCS) and human machine interfaces (HMI).
Complete paperwork and log production information accurately (labor reports, recipe weight, waste sheets, Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS) sheets, etc.).
Operate forklift and other material handling equipment.
Attend team, safety, and quality meetings, complete the necessary training / certification required by supervision, and train others as needed. Job purpose
This position is mainly responsible for the safe and efficient operation of process equipment and packaging equipment from start-up to shut-down for processing and packaging of food resulting in safe quality food for human consumption. The mixing and cooking of candy recipes may also be a part of this job.
Essential Functions:
Responsible for implementing food safety, quality, and regulatory practices and procedures within their area of authority to meet regulatory requirements and food quality and safety standards.
Change programs/parameters in chocolate tempering machines, depositors, enrobers and various machines related to processing and packaging food.
Assemble pipes, pumps and kettle parts to be used for cooking/mixing candy recipes and other equipment related to the depositing, coating and forming of various candy products, often using common hand tools.
Follow recipes to weigh ingredients, use equipment to mix and cook, and use instruments to measure temperature, viscosity and brix.
Use PPE for various tasks related to cooking and operating equipment.
Comply with good manufacturing practices and using standard operating procedures when processing, depositing, extruding and enrobing various candy products according to the production schedule to meet customer demand.
Inspecting food materials prior to and during use to prevent introduction of foreign materials and prevent food safety risks and substandard quality products made or packaged in our facilities.
Training new permanent and temporary employees.
Training for safe practices in accordance with all company guidelines/policies related to personal safety, food safety, quality and efficiency.
Giving direction to new permanent employees and temporary employees to perform tasks according to their supervisor's direction.
Correct nonconforming performance to prevent immediate personal and food safety risks.
Alert supervisors or management of nonconforming behavior/activities that violate company guidelines/policies.
Planning and prioritizing work activities for efficiency, quality and safe execution of the schedule production and all other assigned work.
Promote an atmosphere that builds the team by continuously improving job skills and giving people positive feedback.
Collaborate with internal, (and occasionally external), customers and vendors for effective completion of scheduled and unscheduled production. This includes but is not limited to other cooks/machine operators, management, maintenance personnel, supervisors, QA, Inventory control, temp agency representatives and warehouse/shipping personnel.
Communicate with other team members in a professional and pleasant manner.
Completing all required paperwork.
Work all line worker positions as needed when not cooking or operating machines or when help is needed on the lines due to a lack of staffing or surges in production volume.
Use rework as soon as possible and in accordance with company guidelines and policies.
Enter all necessary production data into the computer system.
Use electric pallet movers, hand operated pallet jacks, barrel moving equipment and forklifts. (After appropriate company training and certification)
Ensure that all food containers are tagged correctly with Description, LOT, Item Number and quantity.
Keep all utensils, containers and other food contact surfaces clean and sanitary.
Preventing cross contamination between allergens and between food contact and non-food contact surfaces.
Other duties as assigned by supervision and/or management, including but not limited to, cleaning, operating power equipment, taking inventory, various inspections and attending meetings and training events.

The Role
You will operate state-of-the-art plastic extrusion equipment to produce high-quality specialty films. What You'll Do
Performs duties in a manner that adheres to safety policies and procedures.
Participate in the training curriculum as an operator learning aspects of plastic extrusion line operations while completing assigned duties required for certification
Change plastic extruding machine, set up according to production line changes following specifications on work orders, and examine products for nonconformance to specifications
Responsible for monitoring quality and accuracy of the line and scrap
Perform housekeeping and preventative maintenance tasks as required to maintain equipment
Set up plastic extrusion machines (shut-down, start-up, switchovers, order preparation, and production, of plastic extrusion lines).
Responsible for raw materials (resin) by keeping extruder fed with resin mixture
Maintain good interaction and teamwork with supervisor and co-workers
Give assistance to co-workers to expedite changeovers
Identify needed changes and make recommendations - find a better way
Troubleshoot mechanical issues, requesting supervisor assistance when needed

Essential Qualifications:
Ability to work 12-hour shifts and lift up to 65 pounds
Basic mechanical aptitude and comfort with measuring tools
Strong communication skills and positive attitude
Willingness to learn and adapt in a technical environment
