Summary: Provide manual machinist support of power generation equipment in the Central Repair Shop. Provide mechanical maintenance support to maintain equipment in an electrical generating power plant; may perform Head Mechanic duties during absence of a Head Mechanic. Essential Duties/Responsibilities: * Recognizes safety hazards and follows safety guidelines for personal protection, protection of fellow workers and the protection of the public. * Knowledgeable of environmental rules and regulations, and effectively apply them to all work situations. * Ability to operate manual lathes to 138" swing, manual boring mills to 17' swing, and large manual horizontal boring machines. * Installs, maintains tests, inspects, and repairs generating station equipment such as boilers, turbines, pumps, condensers, heat exchangers, and pressure vessels. * Replaces bearings, packing in pumps and valves, shaft seals, sleeves, seats, and other miscellaneous parts used in plant equipment. * Works with apprentice mechanics and skill enhancement employees to teach proper, safe use of tools and maintenance procedures. * Employee must arrange own transportation to work location and may be reassigned to another location at the Company's discretion. Working Conditions: * Machine Shop and Power Plant environment * Power Plant Environment-Work both inside and outside in all temperatures and climate conditions in accordance with Heat Stress procedures. * Work around large rotating equipment, energized electrical equipment in high noise areas, and/or in confined places, on elevations in excess of 250 feet, or from platforms at heights of 5 feet or greater. Climb stairways, ladders, and work from aerial devices * Must be prepared to work irregular or rotating shifts and respond to emergency callout 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. * Ability to work in mentally stressful environments: must be able to react to crises where immediate action is required to correct or curtail potentially damaging or hazardous situations * Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required i.e.…steel-toed boots, respirators, goggles, safety glasses etc. Minimum Requirements: * High school diploma, GED or equivalent knowledge of English, mathematics and grammar. * Journey level mechanical aptitude skills and adequate industrial mechanical maintenance experience (minimum 3 years' apprentice program or other training) in the repair, inspection, and/or maintenance of related power plant or machine shop equipment including inspection and preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, fabricating and diagnostics * 5 years' Machinist experience required * Large lathes, mills, vertical boring machines and horizontal boring machine. * Strong math skills.     Lead Machinist Shift: 2nd (6:00 PM - 4:30 AM) Will supervise team of experienced machinists of various skill levels and help develop into cohesive team on shift assigned to support department and company goals and objectives. Product mix will contain both low volume and high volume repeat production components for both projects and stock products. The equipment used is ISO G code Fanuc controlled machines ranging in size from S-30 collet sized lathes through VTL's with tables up to100” in diameter, the lathes use a variety of 3 jaw hydraulic and 4 jaw manual chucks. Mills include 40” x 20” travel VMC's 800 & 1000MM HMC's and a HBM, programs are programmed offline using Edge-Cam. Evaluate tooling, fixturing, programming and personnel requirements for each job order to ensure job order is executed effectively ensure machinist personnel understand the tooling, fixturing and programming requirements for each assigned job order to ensure effective execution. Identify personnel training needed to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of production operations and to ensure production of ValvTechnologies is performed to established quality standards. Monitor production schedules, job orders and estimates of labor hours for requirements of completion of job assignments. Effectively communicate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Production, Quality and Project Managers for clarification of engineering, manufacturing and production instructions. Analyze technical issues as they arise, identify root cause of the issue and formulate and implement solutions to resolve issue Responsibilities: Promotes and maintains safe work behaviors throughout the department resulting in a clean, safe and well organized facility (5S) Enforces production priorities and schedules, monitors progress and resolves production issues to drive and ensure the on-time delivery of quality parts to customer in an ever-changing job shop environment Assists machinists in setting up and troubleshooting CNC machines for efficient operations Evaluates team and individual's performance on an ongoing basis and provides the appropriate coaching and direction to develop a high performing organization Works on direction of dayshift management team to develop machining operations to improve productivity, reduce setups, monitor department KPI's and adjust operations to exceed targets Provides daily/weekly/monthly production reports demonstrating actual performance against planned objectives Ensures product quality and reduces scrap and rework Skills: Extensive manufacturing background in CNC milling CNC lathe on G code based machines, must have basic knowledge of manual lathe and vertical mill machining and tooling used Working knowledge and experience with a variety of CNC machines, primarily with Fanuc controls, must have good knowledge of generated G-code programming including all common canned cycles and ability to trouble shoot, good working knowledge of fixturing and machine setup principals Excellent shop mathematical skills, knowledge of machining workmanship standards Exceptional leadership, organizational, management, interpersonal communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to inspire and motivate staff Strong technical aptitude, ability to read blueprints and understand manufacturing processes with a high attention to detail Understanding of GD&T and basic blue print reading Proficient utilizing ERP systems, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook Core Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent required 5 years of machining experience on ISO G code CNC lathes and mills required. 3-5 year's supervisory experience required Additional beneficial experience would include: Programming experience particularly Edge-Cam Extensive knowledge of machining tight tolerance products Good understanding of materials used in product line, including but not limited to carbon steels, low alloy steels, stainless steels of various grades and various nickel alloys Experience dealing with cast components Experience with process improvement and Lean Manufacturing

As well rounded machinists and fabricators they are able to select and operate the proper machine shop tools to remove damaged babbitt and prepare the bearing for repair. They may also use raw materials, welding tools, flame spraying, or electrical test equipment to manufacture, alter or test components as part of the process. During the babbitting process they move the part to our custom foundry where they apply new babbitt using various casting techniques. Once the babbitt is cast, their skill at precision machining and metalworking outputs a finished bearing crafted to precise dimensions. Using non-destructive testing techniques and measurement tools they verify the quality and dimensions of their work before preparing the bearing to ship to the customer. JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS Ability and willingness to be in the shop environment a minimum of 8 hours per day, primarily standing and sitting. Ability and willingness to work around and use large propane / acetylene.
