The Machinist II will: * Plan, layout, machine and assemble to precision tolerances parts and tools designed to meet exacting standards and specifications consisting of mechanical or specialty apparatus. * Set and operate a variety of machining equipment such as engine and bench lathes, vertical and horizontal milling machines, job borers, grinders, hones, gear cutters, and drill presses, to fully utilize all functions of the machines. * Plan and determine the sequence of machining operations, number of cuts required to obtain required finishes and tolerances, determine cutting tools to be used and method of holding and aligning work. * Make complete layout on parts involving compound angles and exacting mating part work, to check for sufficient stock and for reference during machining. * Set up machines to completely and independently perform any operations within their capacity. Select mount and align various specialized machine attachments and standard or improvised tooling. Determine, set, and adjust machine speeds, feeds and depth of cut. Select, mount, and fasten cutting tools for specified finish and best performance consistent with the type of material being machined. * Check own machine set up and parts run for conformance to blueprint specifications. Grind own tool bits and drills. * Work from detailed drawings, templates, sketches, assembly blueprints, or oral instructions * Offers technical direction to customers on pre-fabrication reviews, modifications, or repairs. * Operate the machines to perform such typical operations as chasing all types of single and multiple external tapers; turning, boring, reaming, facing, slotting, etc., for any type of machine fit; machining parts involving compound angles or concentric and coordinated concave or convex surfaces to exacting tolerances. * Ability to program and operate in at least one CNC language. * Train less experienced machinists; general inspection of work. * Maintain a clean and organized work area. * Organize and properly store inventory, materials, and safety equipment. * Use of lift equipment as required. * Perform related duties as required. Job Description Rotating Machinery Services, Inc (RMS Inc.) is seeking a qualified Manual Machinist to work 1st shift and perform a variety of machining practices involved in turning, milling, drilling, threading operations, etc. They perform a detailed incoming inspection using micrometers and other fine measurement tools, learn to draw prints based on their findings and make recommendations on necessary critical repairs. As well rounded machinists and fabricators they are able to select and operate the proper machine shop tools to remove damaged babbitt and prepare the bearing for repair. They may also use raw materials, welding tools, flame spraying, or electrical test equipment to manufacture, alter or test components as part of the process. Rotating Machinery Services, Inc (RMS Inc.) is seeking a qualified Manual Machinist to work 1st shift and perform a variety of machining practices involved in turning, milling, drilling, threading operations, etc. They perform a detailed incoming inspection using micrometers and other fine measurement tools, learn to draw prints based on their findings and make recommendations on necessary critical repairs. As well rounded machinists and fabricators they are able to select and operate the proper machine shop tools to remove damaged babbitt and prepare the bearing for repair. They may also use raw materials, welding tools, flame spraying, or electrical test equipment to manufacture, alter or test components as part of the process. During the babbitting process they move the part to our custom foundry where they apply new babbitt using various casting techniques. Once the babbitt is cast, their skill at precision machining and metalworking outputs a finished bearing crafted to precise dimensions. Using non-destructive testing techniques and measurement tools they verify the quality and dimensions of their work before preparing the bearing to ship to the customer. JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS Ability and willingness to be in the shop environment a minimum of 8 hours per day, primarily standing and sitting. Ability and willingness to work around and use large propane / acetylene. Ability to operate small lifts, pallet jacks and other lifting equipment (training will be provided on our specific equipment, but basic skills are required beforehand). Advanced oral and written communication. Advanced math skills to calculate tolerances and dimensions. Must be able to read and understand Blueprints and G-Code. Must be familiar with basic machining practices involved in turning, milling, drilling, threading operations. Must be competent reading drawings and following instructions necessary to produce usable and saleable parts. Must be able to hold tolerances as dictated by drawings, written instructions, or industry standards. Must be proficient with the use of, the care of, and the calibration of all types of measuring devices (i.e., micrometers (OD and ID), dial calipers, dial indicators, etc.). Must possess and provide basic tools required for the execution of the position of manual machinist. Must be able to comply with all safety directives and programs established by the Company and or our customers. Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent Knowledge and/or Skill Requirements: OMEGA experience Proficient in running horizontal lathes and milling machines. Capable of reading drawings and proper use of calibrated measuring tools. Can hold tolerances of .0005". Read drawings and use of micrometers. Basic machining knowledge and practices required. While performing the duties of this position, the employee will be required to stand and walk for significant portions of the shift. Ability and willingness to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs., walk, climb, reach, kneel, crawl, and balance. Must be able to use hands for assembly and tool. Previous Experience: 5 - 10 years of Manual Machinist experience required. OTHER INFORMATION The position will be based full-time in our South Houston, TX facility. Availability to work weekends, holidays and overtime to meet company needs. Able to understand, read, write, and speak English proficiently. Authorized to work in the United States. Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen, background check and physical requirements. This role can be required to participate in company and/or customers random drug testing requirements. Brief Description: The Sr. Machinist will oversee work on a manual lathe which ensures cutting a variety of mud motor parts. All machinists should ensure each part of all measurements are accurate and that all parts are usable after cutting. This role is also responsible for visual inspection of all parts upon completion and QA/QC of all parts before being taken out of lathe. The Sr. Machinist role will report directly to the Machine Shop Supervisor (Production Foreman). Detailed Description: Oversee inspection of all parts produced or machined Repair all equipment brought to the machine shop Provide effective QA/QC procedures during production Ability to work independently in troubleshooting and resolving problems concerning machining operations Perform secondary machining operations on components parts as required Perform detailed analysis of the component parts configuration/dimensions to determine efficiency in machining operations required for production Assess worn parts to determine whether they need to be repaired or replaced Work with engineering and fellow supervisory personnel to troubleshoot and resolve design equipment and work through operating difficulties Perform preventive maintenance duties as scheduled by the maintenance department Provide training of lower-level machinists, answering work questions, resolving operating difficulties and reviewing completed work assignments Document inspections, test results, repair work done Oversee cleanliness and organization of the shop Ensure that all equipment is clean and in good working order Safely operate forklift to move equipment around the yard Load machine with workpieces or raw materials Strong familiarity with CAD drawings and geometric dimensioning testing Performs other related duties as assigned Job Requirements: Solid experience using various measuring equipment Ability to operate an overhead crane Clear vision to judge near and far distances to maintain awareness of reporting ongoing work activities to coworkers and third party Maintain spatial orientation and awareness to safely move around work environment with many moving objects Knowledge and experience with tools and materials Broad knowledge of machining techniques to perform advanced setup operations Proficient in the use of cutting tools & measuring equipment Ability to read and understand blueprints drawings Ability to work independently to troubleshoot and resolve problems concerning machining operations and tools Ability to lead by example and be a good mentor to junior employees Demonstrate clear written and verbal communication skills, including ability to promptly give and follow directions when working with others Ability to handle multiple projects and supervisors at once Must have good interpersonal and communication skills including ability to interact productively with coworkers and third parties Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools to perform a range of mechanically oriented functions including independent use of heavy-duty handheld and long-handled tools Ability to safely navigate the shop work sites with occasional walking, climbing, standing, stepping, etc. during normal operating conditions (day/night, outdoor hot/cold weather) Lift and carry 50 pounds independently while potentially walking on uneven surfaces Bend, stoop, kneel, twist, and crawl occasionally during visits to field and operational work areas Listen for unusual noises that signify equipment and machinery problems Stay alert and focused up including occasional extended work periods Must be willing and able to be on call after hours and work on weekends Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all designated times Good computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED equivalent 5+ years of experience running a manual lathe Must live within a 1 hour driving distance of the shop Availability to work on call rotation as well as overtime Experience machining API connections and/or tapered connections.
