Utilize hand and machine tools for assemblies and to repair and modify gauges, and jigs etc. Work collaboratively with other departments to assist in both product design and design for manufacturing. Diagnose and troubleshoot problems and perform repairs on tools and fixtures. File and finish workpieces using the appropriate hand tools to ensure products are smooth and that they fit together properly. Requirements: Experience with SolidWorks and CAM packages is preferred. Experience with Tooling and Fixturing is a necessary skill set. Fluent in reading customer drawings, specifications and sketches containing multiple views and sections. Must have the ability to accurately measure and perform all quality inspections throughout the process. Ability to use calipers, micrometers, surface table height gauges, dial indicators, gauge blocks and gauge pins. Manual and CNC background required Experience working in an AS9100 environment a plus. MACHINIST Responsible for operating machine tools to produce precision metal parts. Produces small batches or large quantities of metal parts. Ensure products meet precise specifications. Primary responsibilities Operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to produce metal parts. Review electronic or written blueprints or specifications for a job. Calculate where to cut or bore. Shape steel, aluminum, titanium, plastic, silicon and other materials. Determine how fast or slow work piece is fed into machine. Determine how much material to remove. Select tools and materials for the job. Plan the sequence of cutting and finishing operations. Mark the work piece to show where cuts should be made. Position work piece on the drill press, lathe, or milling machine. Monitor and control feed rate and speed. Ensure work piece is properly lubricated and/or cooled. Regulate temperature of work piece. Detect problems by listening for specific sounds. Adjust cutting speed to compensate for harmonic vibrations. Monitor the accuracy of cuts. Replace dull cutting tools. Check accuracy of work against blueprints & specifications. Produce large quantities of parts. Determine how automated equipment will cut a part. Determine cutting path. Concert path, speed, and feed information into set of instructions for machine tool. Use manual and computer-controlled machinery. Write basic programs. Modify programs in response to problems. The Machinist will operate manual and CNC machines to fabricate and manufacture components for internal and external use for Gray America Corp. and its subsidiaries. Supervisory Responsibilities: None. Duties/Responsibilities: Operates fabrication machinery to produce parts used in manufacturing processes. Reads and interprets blueprints and design sketches to ensure proper dimensions and specifications for parts. Selects the appropriate cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials to be used on machines. Examines and measures complete units and parts to identify any defects and to ensure units conform with predetermined specifications; adjusts machine controls to resolve production errors. Must be able to accurately read a micrometer, caliper, and tape measure Inspect machinery for any repairs needed; performs minor repairs within expertise. Utilizes Fusion Autodesk software to prepare G-Code for machine, tests results. Set up machine for runs Works with other machinists and maintenance team to determine best solution for machined part Maintains cleanliness and safety of work area.
