The Mechanical Designer II position (CAD Designer) will support both new product development and tactical projects by creating and altering 3D solid models and associated engineering drawings while managing the Engineering Change and Release process. Design Engineer II Job Description The Design Engineer II uses engineering techniques to design, maintain, or improve new or existing products and/or components for engineering projects within the area of assigned responsibility. will serve our Water Heater Division, located in Montgomery, AL. Responsibilities Analyzes engineering sketches, specifications and related data and drawings to determine design factors such as size, shape and arrangement of parts. Sketches rough layouts and computes angles, weights, surface areas, dimensions, radii, clearances, tolerances, leverages and location of holes. Plan, coordinate, and check engineering changes prior to supervisory signature release to production. Investigate and troubleshoot product design related problems and opportunities, documenting findings and performing corrective/improvement changes. Reviews product design for compliance with engineering principles, agency standards, company standards and customer contract requirements, and related specifications. Develop agency certification submittals and coordinate available testing with internal and external laboratories. Develop evaluation test plans and coordinate with engineering designers and lab test engineers on test set-up, data acquisition, interpretation of data and means for achieving desired test results. Write detailed engineering reports with analysis and summary of findings that will be shared with other departments and archived for historical reference.
