HFA has an opening for a mechanical designer and will be involved with HVAC and plumbing design of retail buildings that involve existing facility remodeling throughout the United States. This can be an entry level position and/or an individual with approximately 1-3 years of experience/exposure to HVAC and plumbing design and can make an immediate contribution to the team. Entry level applicants will be required to work in the Bentonville studio location to learn and develop design skills. Based on experience and ability of individuals with some experience in HVAC and plumbing design can be considered for a remote or hybrid role. Complete drainage calculations for storm sewer design, hydraulic systems, detention ponds, and water quality measures. Lead a design team in correcting redlines and plan revisions. Research and review ordinances, technical reports, municipal, state, and federal codes to ensure compliance. Communicate with city, county, and state entities to ensure all requirements are met. Collaborate with project coordinators, other project engineers, and design staff to provide status updates, discuss challenges, and address plan revisions. Monitor compliance with applicable codes, practices, QA/QC policies, performance standards, and specifications. Interact daily with the Project Coordinators to make sure projects are on track and clients are being communicated with well about the status of their project. Interact with the clients when needed to interpret their needs and requirements and represent them in the field. Perform overall quality control of the work (budget, schedule, plans, personnel's performance) and report regularly on project status. Assign responsibilities, mentor the project team, and liaise with a variety of stakeholders. Manage, design, develop, create, and maintain small-scale to large-scale construction projects in a safe, timely, and sustainable manner. Conduct on-site investigations and analyze data (maps, reports, tests, drawings, and other). Assess potential risks, materials, and costs. Attend planning meetings as needed. This role can be remote within the continental U.S. What You'll Do Under the direction of a Team Lead you'd support the creation of small to mid-sized facility designs or portions of large programs, including warehouse, fulfillment and manufacturing buildings. Engage Design: provide HVAC and plumbing systems design - from early schematic development to final construction documents and though construction administration. You'll be using Revit, so savvy users are highly desired, and other industry standard load calculation software. Collaboration: Work closely with an integrated team of in-house architects, structural and electrical engineers, and internal team leads to ensure fully coordinated project documents. Support Construction: support the mechanical engineer of record, based on experience to respond to RFIs, review submittals, and support construction administration for projects. Job Requirements include but are not limited to: * Designer will work with Mechanical Engineer and/or Mechanical Design lead to communicate with client, deliver completed construction documents, and assist in construction administration as required for most project types. * Designer should utilize education and experience to independently develop, implement, and draft construction documents for most project and/or project type (or at least major portions), as well as, solve medium to difficult design challenges that arise on a project or simple projects. * Designer should be able to apply their knowledge gained through experience and knowledge of recognized national standards to simple projects, with minimal oversight from Mechanical * Engineer or Mechanical Design Team Lead. Designer should have a basic understanding of energy codes and how it impacts design. * Designer should be able to design and draft domestic water, sewer, and natural gas piping systems, including riser diagrams, for small to medium projects. Job Duties include but are not limited to: * Designer should be proficient in AutoCAD and/or REVIT. Designer should be able to train new employees on company standards, drafting techniques, and answer most technical design questions on simple projects for HVAC and plumbing, as well as, possess a basic understanding of national standards (IMC, IPC, ASHRAE). Designer will have a good understanding of Trane Trace. * Designer will work in a collaborative environment with Architects and other Engineers to develop construction documents based on a clients' requirements, including performing some project management functions, quality control, or other duties as necessary. * Designer should be able to provide a high level of quality control on all their projects and possibly others, for final review by the Mechanical Engineer or Mechanical Design Lead. * Designer will, in some cases, have direct client contact. * Designer will be able to work within established budgets.
