Responsibilities:
Design, implement, and maintain novel automated systems and solutions that contribute to current manufacturing and scale up of manufacturing operations to eventual commercialization.
Manage external vendors to develop plans, evaluate proposals, and ensure delivery of projects in-scope, within budget, and on time.
Document equipment and procedures though User Requirements Specifications, detailed mechanical, electrical, and assembly drawings, and use and maintenance SOPs. Contribute to the implementation and maintenance of the Quality Management System.
Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to support product development and manufacturing activities, and to identify and resolve manufacturing issues.
Contribute to continuous improvement to increase safety, quality, and efficiency of manufacturing.
Qualifications:
BS or advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
At least 10 years of experience in designing, building, installing, qualifying, and maintaining automated systems for high volume medical device manufacturing.
Experience writing and executing IQ, OQ and PQ protocols.
Experience developing URS, FAT and SAT documents for automated equipment
3D CAD (SolidWorks or similar) as well as Mechanical design of fixtures, assemblies and equipment.
Understanding and working knowledge of mechanical linkages, power transmissions and practices.
Understanding of diverse fabrication techniques, manufacturing processes, and Design for Manufacturability

The Internship We are looking for a Mechanical Engineering Intern to contribute to our robot hardware development and testing group. For college students interested in engineering design for the built environment, CMTA has a robust co-op program for students pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Architectural Engineering. We offer an opportunity for students to immerse themselves for one or more semesters in the consulting engineering world. Our co-ops build industry competitive skills in a hands-on environment, all while working on a team, and being trained by Professional Engineers in AutoCAD and Revit. The skills our co-ops learn allow them to create real construction drawings for real CMTA projects.
This position is a full time (40 hrs./week), onsite position with a competitive hourly pay rate and eligible for overtime pay. This position will start May 2026 and go through Summer. Dates are flexible with school calendar. Our hope is that the co-op students that are hired will do multiple co-op rotations with CMTA with possible consideration for full time employment upon graduation.
Job Description:This position provides a unique opportunity for hands-on training in mechanical/HVAC/Energy design. The ideal candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work well with a team, and independently. Our engineers will teach the student co-op how we design and implement mechanical systems/infrastructure and implement energy efficient measures in our building projects. This is a great opportunity to work on some of the most challenging and complex MEP projects, and become an important part of our design team.
Job Functions: (may include but are not limited to)
Produce detailed layout and equipment details of HVAC systems,
Produce one-line diagrams/schematics,
Assist the design team in the process of assembling organized sets of drawings,
May assist in the data collection and/or field verification, and
Work in conjunction with designers and engineers to help develop all aspects of a project.
Requirements:
Pursuing a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering, preferably a sophomore (2nd year), or junior (3rd year),
Strong interest in Building Systems Mechanical Engineering,
AutoCAD and REVIT experience preferred,
Strong interpersonal and communication skills,
Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel,
Ability to work both independently and with a team,
Ability to work full time throughout the co-op term,
Ability to travel locally for job site inspections, field work, etc.

We are excited to offer a unique internship opportunity for aspiring Mechanical Engineers to join our team in person from June through August 2026 in downtown Boston, MA.
In our Boston office, we concentrate on process technology development and engineering work in the areas of chemicals, renewables, biofuels, and circular process technologies. Technology development activities are also carried out in a 19,000 square foot laboratory in Weymouth, Massachusetts.
The Mechanical Equipment and Piping Engineering Intern will support the engineering team in the design, analysis, and implementation of mechanical and piping systems. This role provides a valuable opportunity for hands-on experience in a professional engineering environment, allowing the co-op student to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world projects. The ideal candidate will be a motivated engineering student with a strong interest in mechanical and piping systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in the development of mechanical and piping system designs using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar).
Prepare detailed drawings, schematics, and layouts for mechanical and piping components.
Collaborate with senior engineers to support various engineering projects, including new installations, upgrades, and maintenance of mechanical and piping systems.
Participate in project meetings and contribute to the development of project plans and schedules.
Perform basic engineering calculations and analysis under the direction of senior engineers to support design decisions; including stress analysis, fluid dynamics, and thermal analysis.
Assist in the selection of materials and components based on project requirements and industry standards.
Assist with the preparation of technical documentation, including specifications, reports, and manuals.
Work closely with other engineering disciplines, such as electrical, civil, and structural engineers, to ensure integrated and cohesive project outcomes.

About You

Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program or higher in Mechanical Engineering; preference given to candidates with expected graduations in 2027 or 2028.
Strong academic performance and a solid understanding of engineering principles.
Exposure to CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Basic knowledge of mechanical and piping systems, including design, analysis, and materials
