Job Tasks:
Work closely with Product Management, Quality, and Manufacturing to generate, initiate and complete new products, product improvements, and cost reduction designs based on company goals, customer needs, industry/regulatory standards, quality assurance, and manufacturability.
Manage product development timelines by creating and monitoring project timelines, maintaining NPD gateway documentation, and leading progress report-outs for upper management.
Design and optimize mechanical door hardware components for Opening Systems. Components include: thresholds, hinges, gasketing, automatic door bottoms, astragals, power transfers, sliding and folding hardware, peripheral products, etc.
Create and execute product inspection and test plans for FAS/FAP, alpha, beta, and compliance testing to ensure design safety, durability, and functionality. Monitor, capture, and document testing data for internal R&D lab testing, and external laboratory testing.
Analysis of mechanical systems, including but not limited to analysis for structural, fatigue, thermal, and acoustics.
Develop design drawing prints in accordance with applicable standards, tolerances, quality assurance, and manufacturability. Lead and oversee drawing print modifications through the ECR process and participate in peer review sessions.
Provide technical guidance and support for internal and external customers through in person and virtual troubleshooting sessions.
Interface with outside vendors for component selection, V&V, manufacturing, and assembly.
Provide design related technical guidance & assistance to other engineers, production team, supply chain, and other personnel in efforts to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and ensure an uninterrupted flow of design transfer.
Research and analyze customer design proposals, specification, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications.
