Responsibilities: Develops, implements and manages manufacturing productivity measurement systems. Conducts motion and time analysis to develop production standards and to verify actual production costs match initial product/process design estimates. Works with accounting group to rectify manufacturing cost discrepancies. Improves manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning work flow, space requirements, and equipment layout. Evaluates, recommends and implements changes to existing manufacturing processes to optimize costs and/or improve quality. Designs/develops tooling and fixtures to reduce process setup times and/or facilitate product changeover. Assists with product/process development efforts when introducing new products/materials into the manufacturing facility. Leads lean manufacturing initiatives. Qualifications: Education and/or Experience: Skills and experience generally associated with the attainment of a 4-year Degree in engineering, technology, or other related fields. Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles preferred. Experience with 2D or 3D CAD software required. Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, and technical procedures; draft reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; effectively present information to individuals or groups (management, employees, clients, customers, general public) and respond to questions. Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform arithmetic calculations and apply basic statistical, algebraic and geometric concepts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, volumes, etc. Reasoning Skills: Ability to collect data, establish facts, and solve practical problems with a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists. Role description: This internship is a great opportunity for students who participate in Project Lead The Way (PLTW) programs and are interested in manufacturing and engineering. You'll gain hands-on experience working in our plant, learning about production and how we improve the way we work. You'll be part of the Continuous Improvement (CI) team, helping with projects that make our processes faster, safer, and more efficient. You'll gain real-world skills like how to solve problems, work with teams, and use tools and systems that professionals use in manufacturing. The program will consist of project assignments that will lay a strong foundation for future careers in manufacturing, helping members become an expert in the metal manufacturing operations. By the end of the summer, you'll have a better understanding of how metal packaging is made and how to make production better through teamwork, safety, and analytical thinking. Job Responsibilities: Help the CI Lead with improvement projects across the plant. Prioitizing training early on tools and techniques used in manufacturing. Support events focused on improving processes, like Kaizen, SMED (quick changeovers), and 6S (Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain, Safety) activities. Contribute to planning the AMPS Month celebrations and training sessions in August. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement process improvements. Requirements Qualifications: Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related field with a focus on Structural Design. Strong academic performance and coursework related to structural analysis and design. Solid understanding of engineering principles and a keen interest in structural design. * Assist Barnhart Engineering team in creating innovative heavy-lift/heavy-transport solutions. * Work as directed by Manager to support Barnhart Engineers in completion of assigned tasks and required deliverables. Work includes, but is not limited to, the following: * AutoCAD/Inventor modeling. * Equipment layout drawings. * Basic Steel design and calculations. * Initiatives that aid in engineering process and proposal creation (ex: reference charts, Excel templates, etc.). * Regular and clear communication with Manager and other Barnhart team members. * Local field support as needed. * Work and act in a way consistent with the company Mission Statement and Core Values. * Develop understanding of all facets of the heavy rigging and transportation industry including: * Equipment Knowledge - Working knowledge of Barnhart equipment, load charts, features, operational best practices, and industry standard rigging equipment (ex: shackles, slings, spreader bars, etc). * People knowledge - Must be familiar with skills and qualifications of Branch Personnel matching those to the required job.
