Responsibilities
Essential Functions
Demonstrates acceptable imaging quality standards by critiquing positioning, technical factors and alignment. Reviews patient data for accuracy, quality and completeness.
Ensures patient, visitor and environmental safety. Reports safety events immediately including those that are a near miss.
May perform duties of MRI Lead or Imaging Coordinator in his/her absence.
Meets productivity levels as established by department benchmarking. Assists other areas during downtimes so to maintain productivity.
May be required to perform duties of other modalities within the department to which licensers are held by the technologist/sonographer.
Complies with other job descriptions of cross-trained modalities also performed within the department.
Required secondary registries are not required for cross trained modalities at HRHC unless otherwise required by specific compliance, licensure, or accrediting bodies.

Department Specific Job Function
Performs magnetic resonance imaging procedures and assigned invasive procedures by acquiring and processing patient exams as outlined in department protocols including performing multi-planar reformats and/or 3D rendered images independently. Reviews case with the radiologist when appropriate. Administers IV gadolinium based contrast when appropriate and recognizes and responds to any adverse reactions or allergic reactions. Administers IV gadolinium based contrast material by means of existing IV line or by performing veni-puncture and placing IV line.
Responsible to review radiology orders for completeness and accuracy. Reviews patient history and supporting clinical data for medical necessity. Takes steps to acquire additional information if needed from the patient, ordering provider and/or Radiologist.
Transfers and verifies image data in PACS and provides necessary medical history and information for Radiologist interpretation. Utilizes RIS for proper scheduling, billing and coding of procedures. Utilizes the web server/EA viewer and email system to send exams for preliminary readings to nighthawks after hours.
Responsible for maintaining imaging equipment and workplace environment including maintaining supply inventories and orderliness of work area. Recognizes malfunctions and service needs and reports service needs in a timely manner.
Assists in the instruction of students and new staff in the unit's operations as necessary.

Assist in transfer of patients on and off the CT table. * Performs all duties of an MRI technologist as required in a timely manner. Demonstrates competence and proficiency. Identifies anatomical orientation on all required images and ensures proper film identification on all images and reviews each examination for technical accuracy, presents completed examination to radiologist.

* Assesses environment or safety hazards that could harm patient, visitors, or other hospital employees, and reports all hazards to appropriate supervisors immediately. Screens patients, visitors and staff for MRI contradictions before exposing to magnetic field to ensure safety.
* Assists in the instruction of student technologists to MRI scanning.

Detect and report significant changes in patients' conditions and determining when to withhold treatment until the radiation oncologist is consulted.
Perform Quality Assurance tests that are required by the physicians and physicists.
Submit charges on each patient for treatments delivered.
Apply the principles of patient safety during all aspects of patient care.

Qualifications
Education:
Previous MRI pertinent physics course work preferred.
Licensure/Certification/Registry:
ARRT registered in either Radiography or Magnetic Resonance Imaging or registry eligible. If not otherwise specified by the professional licensing body, the maximum allowable time to practice in a "registration pending" status is three months.
If not ARRT registered in MRI, must become ARRT MRI registered within 24 months of accepting the position.
Maintain BLS CPR Certification.
Experience:
Three (3) years experience as a technologist with documented skill advancement in the workplace preferred.
Operational background and / or experience with microcomputer preferred.
Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Excellent interpersonal and guest relations skills required.
Adaptability to ongoing technologist changes.
Responsibilities
Perform a variety of MRI procedures on outpatients of all ages, according to established standards, policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines.
Perform a variety of MRI procedures on inpatients (General, IMC and ICU) of all ages, according to established standards, policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines.
Perform a variety of Neuro specific MRI procedures in support of Comprehensive Stroke Designation.
Remain current with departmental protocol changes.
Maintain an excellent guest relations rapport with patients, visitors, Physicians and fellow employees.
Maintain skills in performing emergency and routine patient care as required.
Administer agents / pharmaceuticals under the supervision of the Radiologist.
Utilize proper infection control practices per the department procedure manual.
Ensure adequate levels of inventory. Monitor the condition of equipment and supplies to ensure the safe and efficient operations of the department; report problems to proper authority. Review and recommend equipment / supply purchases.
Ensure the integrity of, proper recording and transmission of patient information.
Ensure the safety of patients, visitors and employees.
Participate in flexible work hours that coincide with workload demands, overtime required when necessary. Assume MRI call.
Maintain current credentials as required by MMC.
Participate in continuing education and maintain knowledge of current and new MRI technology. Complete 12 CE hours per year in Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
Acquire and maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in MRI.
Assist with the instruction of radiography students.
