Essential Responsibilities Select and prepare appropriate supplies for the operative procedure based on the physician's plan of care and preferences and personal clinical knowledge. Set up back tables, mayo stands, etc. Ensure that the operating room is kept neat and tidy throughout procedure to facilitate the operation. Notify the Materials Coordinator of any out of stock supplies/instruments so that they may be ordered and ready in time for the procedure. Observe the procedure to ensure aseptic techniques are being used at all times. Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and have hand instruments, sponges, sutures, etc. ready to hand to the appropriate staff member. Account for all needles used and ensure they are handled and disposed of properly. Identify and label all specimens, drugs, solutions, etc. used on the sterile field. Assist with room turnover and ensure that all instruments and equipment used have been sent to the sterile processing room or disposed of properly. Communicate and respond to any problems or concerns. Maintain working status of instruments and equipment. Communicate inventory needs to the Materials Coordinator.
