Certified surgical technologists are responsible for preparing the operatingroom, including but not limited to, the sterile field, setting up surgical equipment, supplies, etc. During surgery, the certified surgical technologists contribute to patient care by assisting the surgeon with instrumentation, supplies, specimens, and control of the sterile, surgical field. They are instrumental in preventing foreign retained objects. (Association of Surgical Technologists, 2022).
Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for scrubbing on all major and minor surgical procedures as assigned.
2. Participates with patient assessments while planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care.
3. Performs circulating duties under direct supervision of a Registered Nurse to provide care and safety to all patients.
4. Responsible for maintaining operatingroom suite supplies, pulling procedures, assisting with continuing education, precepting, and orientation of all staff.
5. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the physical, psych/social, educational, and safety needs of the patients served regardless of age.
6. Participates in various hospital activities as appropriate and as directed by the Manager

* Report any significant information and/or change in patient condition directly to the registered nurse or supervisor.

* Maintain environmental integrity and aesthetics - ensure all areas are safe and clean.
* Clean and disinfect dialysis machine surface, chair, equipment, and surrounding area between treatments according to facility policy.
* Conduct all tasks necessary for preparation for dialysis treatment and document where appropriate and perform all required pretreatment dialysis machine alarm testing including Pressure Holding (PHT).
* Initiate Solution Delivery System (SDS) system.
RECORD KEEPING:

* Assist in assuring patient understanding of treatment options including demonstration of the peritoneal dialysis set-up.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND WORK EXPERIENCE
* Technical Diploma with First Assistant credential
* Minimum 5 years related work experience, 2 years of experience should fall either in the operatingroom scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both surgical/operating role, within the last 5 years
* The aforementioned may be waived if the candidate has two years post- secondary teaching experience in the appropriate occupational field within the last 5 years.
* Current certification in surgical technology (CST) or an approved ARC-ST faculty
* Employment conditional upon completion of a Caregiver Background Check with the results acceptable to the clinical agencies accessed in the curriculum.

* Associate degree in related field

North East Ambulance Services is offering a PAID Apprentice program that will educate candidates and prepare them to successfully complete the National Registry Exam to become a licensed EMT. This is an accelerated class, lasting 6 weeks. Class times will be Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm. Clinical and ride time hours are also required for the course. While in class, students will be paid. After successfully completion of the National Registry exam, students can be hired by any of the sister companies where the salary ranges from $34,185 to $49,740 depending on the shift and schedule chosen.
