The Department of Nursing at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time TH Surgical Technologist 1, NS31 Labor & Delivery.
Teaching Hospital Surgical Technologists act as a scrubbed or sterile member of the surgical team who provide instruments and equipment to the surgeon during operations. Incumbents identify and plan the proper instrumentation and implementation for operative procedures; ensure proper sterile and aseptic techniques within the surgical environment; and assist the surgical team by setting up and passing sterile instruments and equipment.
The Surgical Technologist 2 may perform all of the same duties as a Teaching Hospital Surgical Technologist 1, which includes:
* Assist the Registered Nurse and surgeon in identifying, gathering, and preparing medical instrumentation and specialty equipment for surgical procedures.
* Assist surgical team with the setting up and passing of sterile instruments during surgical procedures.
* Ensure the proper handling of instruments, sponges, sutures, implants, surgical supplies, and specimens in a manner that ensures asepsis and patient safety.
* Prepare the sterile field and assists in preparing the operative site and draping the patient.
* Transport patients to and from operating room and performs preoperative shave preps.
* Assist in the preparation and aftercare of equipment and supplies.
* Clean unsanitary instruments, checks for defective items, and assembles instruments correctly in a container or tray, and wraps and labels instruments appropriately.
* Test the operation and efficiency of equipment and reports problems to the Registered Nurse.
* Collect and transport required operative set-up to surgical room.
* Assist in cleaning and restocking rooms according to established standards.
* Assist in taking inventory of equipment and supplies for specialty areas.
* Assists in the more difficult surgical procedures.
* Coordinates and delegates assignments to subordinate staff and provides advanced training to Surgical Technologist students and new Teaching Hospital Surgical Technologists 1.
* Instructs Teaching Hospital Surgical Technologists 1 in the steps of surgical procedure and use of surgical instruments and equipment.
* Identifies and reports patient care needs to the Registered Nurse.
* Participates in quality assurance and quality improvement programs.
Required Qualifications:
* Successful completion of a nationally accredited surgical technologist education program and current surgical technologist certification by a nationally accredited surgical technologist credentialing organization AND either 1-year of permanent service as a Teaching Hospital Surgical Technologist 1 or 1-year of experience as a surgical technologist in an acute care setting.
* Or, Completion of an appropriate training program in surgical technology in the United States Armed Forces or United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps AND one year of experience as a surgical technologist in an acute care setting.
* Or, Possession of a license and current registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse in New York State AND 1-year of experience as a surgical technologist in an acute care setting.
* Substitution: Applicants who do not hold a current surgical technologist certification may be considered if they possess 1-year of surgical technologist experience in an acute care setting between January 1, 2011, and January 1, 2015.

You will determine donor eligibility to donate plasma, management of donor adverse events, review of laboratory test results, and donor notification of unsuitable test results. The Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) works under the guidance of the Center Manager (or Assistant Manager as applicable) for operational guidance and under the management of the Center Physician for medical issues. The Medical Support Specialist will be familiar with regulations of the plasma collection industry or a manufacturing environment. The Medical Support Specialist follows guidance provided by BioLife Medical Affairs and provides center level support of environmental, health and safety (EHS).
How you will contribute
* You will determine donor eligibility; to include, proper management of informed consent, AIDS education and confidential self-exclusion, medical history interview and acceptance requirements, physical examination, blood testing, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).
* You will evaluate donor reaction(s), which occurs at the facility as outlined in the SOPs. Follow applicable SOPs for medical emergencies including the development of Center Physician's standing orders and donor transport to emergency care facilities.
* You will refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs (as applicable) when in need of providing unacceptable findings to donors, or guidance concerning medical or technical issues, including donor safety and eligibility.
* You will support the Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees as applicable.
* You will manage employee incidents and determine whether further evaluation is required by occupational health/ER. Refer to EHS guidance regarding employee incidents.
* You can be a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations associated with pandemic threats within the local community as indicated by EHS or Medical Affairs.

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Paramedic will support the delivery of a comprehensive range of medical services. The EMT Paramedic will represent International SOS Government Medical Services, Inc. at DOS, and provide care to DOD, and contractor personnel stationed in Iraq. The candidate will provide advanced medical care and support during emergency situations, including assessment, treatment, and transportation of patients. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical skills, the ability to work in high-pressure environments, and a commitment to patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities:
Respond to emergency calls and assess patients' medical conditions.
Coordinate and supervise EMTs within scope of practice.
Performs in support of field emergency situations; Intravenous (IV) line insertions, venous blood draws, intraosseous (IO) access, intubation, medication administration, and 12-lead electrocardiogram with interpretation, and knowledge of a wide range of emergency medications.
Assist medical providers with medical procedures and treatments within the licensed scope of practice.
Assessment and documentation of the patient's vital signs, chief complaint, medical history, prescribed medications and care administered.
Maintains supply inventory by checking stock to determine sufficient inventory levels; anticipating needed items.
Restocking clinical and provider areas.
Crosstrain to work within in the clinics, emergency room, and inpatient units.
Completes required organizational compliance education, including assigned requirements that are client-specified, for Joint Commission Healthcare Staffing Services certification or other regulatory bodies.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements/Certifications:
U.S. state-licensed Paramedic, with National Registry EMTP, or current unrestricted license.

Ability to work in a high-stress environment and make quick decisions in emergency situations.

Full-time, Part-time, and PRN candidates must be ready to commit to full-time hours (3 12hr shifts, 7a-7:30p) during the first 6-8 weeks for orientation.
Under the supervision of a Registered Staff Nurse, and in accordance with defined policies and procedures for the unit, the Emergency Department technician (EDT) provides technical patient care to a pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient population as assigned by the Registered Nurse. Assisting the RN in gathering patient data. Monitor non-invasive cardiac activity on patients by means of continuous display of the patient's cardiac rhythm. Initiation and discontinuation of telemetry monitoring, 12 Lead EKGs continuous pulse ox monitoring. Additional training specific to trauma patients and trauma call downs. Perform phlebotomy on both adults and children. Perform point of care testing such as urine pregnancy testing or blood glucose testing. Assisting patients with activities of daily living (ADLs). Patient transportation to inpatient units, all diagnostic areas within the hospital. Responds to all Air Care flights as transporter assist to deliver patients to end destination. Performs decontamination procedures for contaminated patients. * Must obtain BLS Certification by the end of the orientation period. Maintain BLS certification. Certifies in Basic EKG with 80% score or greater so may flex in Monitor Tech role as required by unit population.

* Initiates, discontinues, and completes troubleshooting of telemetry patients.

* Monitors battery life on equipment and informs staff if batteries need changing.
* Monitors equipment return from transporting patients to in patient area assuring telemetry boxes are returned to supply drawer.
* Performs phlebotomy accurately on pediatric, adult and geriatric patients.
* Transports patients to other areas of hospital and diagnostic areas - may also transport monitored patients if other criteria are met for technician transfer (see ED policy re: nurse required transfer).
* Responds to Air Care helicopter pad for all arrivals to ensure safe transport of patient to unit.
* Performs decontamination procedures for contaminated patients arriving to the Emergency Department.
* Responsible for disaster training specific to patient surge and decontamination procedures.
* Assists with back boarding, splinting, dressing, crutches, and other orthopedic procedures.
* Performs point of care testing (urine pregnancy testing, blood glucose).
* Documents all activities in EPIC.
* Attends ED technician skill fair once per year for mandatory sign off of procedures and equipment usage.
* Sets up room for eye exam, pelvic exams, lacerations, spinal taps, nose bleeds, etc.
* Notifies Registered Nurse of any abnormal findings specific to vital signs or procedural set ups.
