JOB TITLE: Surgical Tech Surgical Technician needed for fast paced ASC. Monday through Friday. CPR required. Certification preferred. Experience will be considered in lieu of certification. As a Surgical Technician, you will assist the surgeon with procedures, maintain sterile technique, be involved in infection control program, monitor and maintain equipment, supplies and instruments and help prepare patients for surgery. Must be team oriented and have proven experience working in a fast-paced environment. CPR required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Prepares and maintains medical equipment and instrumentation for surgical procedures * Before an operation, surgical technologists help prepare the operating room by setting up the sterile field to include surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment, sterile drapes, and sterile solutions * Follows state and federal facility regulations when attending to patients * Performs pre-procedure preparations to the patient's skin and body * Completes a safety check prior to start of the procedure on appropriate equipment, supplies, etc. * Assembles both sterile and non-sterile equipment, as well as checking to ensure it is working properly * May assist with positioning on the procedure table * Drapes the patient with surgical drapes per procedure to be performed * Passes instruments and other sterile supplies to surgeons and surgeon assistants * Retracts, cut sutures and performs other functions under the supervision of the physician performing the procedure * Participates in the count of sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments, based on type of procedure performed * Post-procedure, assists with patient transfer from the procedure bed to the stretcher * Cleans and restocks the procedure room * Pulls supplies and instruments for upcoming procedures * Assists with the maintenance of physician preference cards and inventory management * Assists with the decontamination and cleaning of OR rooms and instruments, sterilization and performance of quality testing related to sterilization and high level disinfection * Performs other duties as assigned KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES: * Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients in the center * Demonstrates the ability to utilize recognized channels of communication * Demonstrates the ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships with patients, co-workers, and other health team members PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS: Surgical technologists work in clean, well-lighted, well-ventilated environments. Must stand for long periods and remain alert during operations. At times may be exposed to communicable diseases and unpleasant sights, odors, and materials. ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS: ASC is open Monday-Friday, no weekend, no major Holidays. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS: * Graduation from an accredited surgical technologist program within 18 months of hire * CST certification, or based on state regulations, they may be grandfathered in, without being certified * Prefer 1-2 years clinical experience in an operating room setting. Experience with both minor and major surgical procedures, including knowledge of surgical instruments, sutures, and sterile techniques. Experience in assisting with procedures such as facelifts, breast augmentations, rhinoplasty, and liposuction is highly preferred. Performs functions as delegated by the RN according to the Nurse Practice Act and as noted in the following job description for the critical care tech. Assumes responsibility and accountability for facilitating, communicating and collaborating with the team to meet the physical and emotional needs of the patient. Job Requirements In addition to bringing your whole self to the workplace each day, qualified candidates will need the following: * One year of healthcare experience (pre-hospital or ED or patient care) preferred. * High School diploma or GED required * Graduate of an EMT-B program required * IV Therapy Certification required (IV Certification is not required for positions located in Utah) * BLS (AHA) required * EKG Certification preferred Physical Requirements - Medium Work - (Exert up to 50lbs force occasionally, and/or up to 20lbs frequently, and/or up to 10lbs constantly) Where You'll Work As one of the busiest ERs in Utah, Holy Cross Hospital - West Valley is known for offering a broad spectrum of medical services and specialty clinics to care for the diverse healthcare needs of our growing community.
