SUMMARY Surgical technologist for innovative orthopedic surgical center. The Surgical Technologist is a certified technician who, as a result of advanced education and in-depth clinical experience, demonstrates proficiency in a defined area of practice. This individual is highly motivated and self-directed and requires minimal supervision in accomplishing his/her duties and responsibilities. He/she actively contributes to the knowledge and growth of self and others and is able to assume more responsibilities outside of his/her area of expertise. Essential duties include the following. RESPONSIBILITIES · Accountable for the delivery of quality patient care in the OperatingRoom. · Assists with the transportation of patients to and from the O.R. as needed · Demonstrates active communication and participation with designated O.R. team members in the TIME OUT verification of correct procedure site marking and laterality. · Demonstrates advanced skills in the use of all equipment to support primary service · Provides advanced surgical scrub services in primary service · Anticipates emergency or unusual circumstances and initiates corrective actions according to established protocols. · Anticipates the need of the surgeon in order to expedite the surgical procedure. · Assists with the preparation of equipment and supplies required for the surgical procedure. · Plans for and coordinates supplies and equipment for intra operative use. · Demonstrates proficiency when selecting instruments for all types of surgery. · Checks case carts for required supplies and selects necessary items as needed for assigned surgery. · Demonstrates knowledge of the storage of specialty equipment by the ability to locate such when necessary. · Maintains and enforces highest standard of sterile technique and safe environment during operative procedure. · Performs periodic counts of needles, sponges, and equipment during the surgical procedure and Initiates corrective action with the circulating nurse in accordance to the center's policies and procedures when counts are incorrect. · Maintains patient's privacy and confidentiality at all times according to the center's standards. · Acts as a patient advocate and assures that the patient's Bill of Rights is followed. REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION · Graduate from certified technician program preferred, or holds license in Practical Nursing, and related OperatingRoom experience with advanced education. · National Certification as a Surgical Technologist Preferred. EXPERIENCE · Must meet the criteria for Surgical Technician. 2 years current experience in an operatingroom preferred. · Maintains his /her certification. **FUNCTION:**
Pratt & Whitney Middletown, CT is looking for a full-time Firefighter/ Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) for a 24 hr. on 72 hr. off rotation.
The Firefighter/ Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) responds to fire, medical and hazardous materials (HAZMAT) emergencies for the purpose of saving lives and protecting Pratt and Whitney property.
**What You Will Do:**
+ Respond to emergencies such as fire, hazmat and disaster by deploying equipment, assist in organizing and directing others and carrying out rescues using a variety of protective gear and specialized equipment.
+ Respond to a wide variety of emergency medical incidents. Provide medical care consistent with Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) training. Supports paramedic on Advance Life Support (ALS) response and will be tasked with ambulance transport.
+ Drive Fire apparatus including pumpers, rescue/hazmat vehicles, ambulance or service vehicles to transport material, equipment, and personnel to fire, accident, disaster or other scenes requiring assistance.
+ Implementing initial scene operations, operating pumps, ventilation, conducting confine space rescue, fire attacks, hazardous materials (HAZMAT) incidents and assisting with salvage and overhaul operations
+ Carry out inspection and testing of a variety of facilities and equipment, tools and fire protection devices, chemicals and support devices. May assist with fire investigation when requested.
+ Test and repair firefighting equipment and perform condition status checks recommending overhaul and refurbishing actions to restore deficient operating parameters.
+ Perform routine servicing and maintenance throughout the facilities for assigned area, equipment and vehicles following specified procedures and check list, clean facilities, vehicles and equipment and painting, observation, training and related activities.
+ Carry out other tasks not specifically listed, within the scope and skill level of this job description to develop individuals' skills and support objectives of the unit.
+ May be required to train for, obtain and maintain licenses, certifications and operator permits for specialized assignment and to conform with governmental and company regulations.
+ Physically be able to lift 50 pounds, climb ladders, drag fully charged hose lines, assist in carrying patients and endure extreme physical effort in hazardous conditions while on a Self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA)
**Basic Qualifications:**
+ High School Diploma or Equivalent
+ CT Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) & CT Fire Fighter (FFI) certifications
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Hazardous Material Technician certified.
+ Valid State of Connecticut "Q" endorsement or a valid Commercial Driver's license (CDL) a plus
+ Fire inspection and knowledge of fire suppression and alarm systems, dispatcher experience.
