Control Room Operator (ROC Operator) Hydroelectric Generation
The Control Room Operator (ROC Operator) is responsible for the continuous monitoring, control, and coordination of multiple hydroelectric facilities from a centralized Remote Operations Center (ROC). This role utilizes SCADA, HMI, and PLC systems to ensure the safe, efficient, and regulatory-compliant operation of all plant assets. Operating on a 24/7 schedule, the ROC Operator plays a critical role in supporting grid reliability, maintaining environmental compliance, and upholding system safety. The position requires a high level of technical knowledge, situational awareness, and clear communication with both on-site and remote personnel.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor real-time plant performance using SCADA, HMI, and remote camera systems.
Remotely operate hydroelectric turbines, generators, gates, and auxiliary systems in accordance with dispatch orders and SOPs.
Execute safe start-up, shutdown, and load-change sequences.
Maintain compliance with license-required flows, environmental regulations, and FERC/NERC standards.
Respond to alarms and abnormal system conditions, initiating timely corrective actions.
Coordinate with field personnel during routine operations, maintenance, and emergencies.
Maintain accurate shift logs, operational records, setpoint changes, and compliance documentation.
Support emergency preparedness efforts and participate in drills (e.g., EAP exercises).
Ensure compliance with cybersecurity, physical security, and access control procedures.
Contribute to continuous improvement of procedures and system reliability.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED and,
1+ years of experience in power plantoperations, industrial control systems, or military technical operations and,
Experience interpreting technical manuals, one-line diagrams, and operational procedures and,
Experience and proficiency with SCADA/HMI systems and computer-based control interfaces and,
Strong decision-making ability under pressure.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Availability to work rotating shifts (including overnights, weekends, and holidays).
Preferred:
Prior experience in hydroelectric plantoperations or centralized control rooms.
Familiarity with FERC, NERC, and dam safety compliance standards.
Associate degree or higher in electrical, mechanical, or related engineering/technical field.
Previous experience with dispatch centers or ROC environments.
Work Environment
Remote Operations Center (ROC): Climate-controlled control room with large displays, multiple control stations, and redundant systems.
Schedule: Rotating or fixed shift schedules based on operational needs. Includes holidays and weekends as part of the 24/7 coverage model.
Occasional regional travel to a hydro site for training and development.

With guidance, operates all aspects of APC system safely and accurately. Adjusts APC system so that system performance is equal to or slightly above facility average. Works with maintenance to troubleshoot problems and assesses probable cause with assistance from PlantOperator.
Maintains work areas in a clean, neat, and orderly condition at all times.
Completes the Corporate and Plant Training Programs within the time frame prescribed.

Based on the requirements of the business, the Process Operator will be scheduled to work in one or any the following areas in the Processes/Operations that the operator has been train and is qualified in the list of duties below. The Process Operator will be required to do one or any of the following:
YOUR RESPONSIBILITY AND TASKS
Primary Responsibilities:
Set up and operate and/or assist in operation of processing and fabrication equipment on a variety of insulation materials.
Inspect and test in-process testing of all solid insulating products to determine suitability for use and shipment to customers.
This includes all raw materials, intermediates, and developmental materials.
Material handling and storage equipment, hand tools, measuring and testing equipment personal protective equipment
Minimum knowledge to Operate the waste storage facility at the Schenectady plant.
Provide direction to plantoperators for proper segregation of waste, labeling and containerization.
Perform a variety of duties related to non-hazardous and hazardous waste control, including classification, storage and disposal of waste materials in Varnish room RV-14.
Inventory control raw, semi-finished and finished materials.
Unload material, store materials in proper locations, observing special precautions. Maintain stock records
YOUR PROFILE
Physical Demands:
Moderate to heavy physical activity. Lifting up to 50 pounds and with the assistance of cranes up to 100 pounds or more. The ability to stand for up to 6 or more hours a day, reaching forward with arms and upper body, manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items and work with the fingers. Climbing required for some equipment.
Work Environment:
PPE is required. Some areas may require the use of ear protection and full face respiratory.

Responsibilities and duties of the Power PlantOperator role:
Reporting to the Heating Plant Supervisor, you will be responsible for:
Operates and maintains steam boilers under the direction of the Shift Lead and Chief Engineer, including boiler burners, fuel handling systems, and feed water equipment.
Responds to and takes corrective action on all system alarms as directed.
Ensures compliance with all "Lock-out/Tag-out" safety procedures in accordance with plant policies and under supervision of the Shift Lead or Plant Manager.
Performs minor maintenance and repairs on equipment as directed to support continuous operation.
Operates and maintains the emergency electric power generator under the supervision of the Shift Lead.
Transfers plant and boiler operations to emergency power during outages and restores normal operation when power returns.
Records all readings, fuel levels, and maintenance data for reporting.
Conducts daily water testing for boiler feed water and condensate treatment.
Monitors and logs pressure, temperature, makeup water, condensate return, and fuel consumption data.
Performs other related duties as assigned by Management.
Professional qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following:
Must hold a valid driver license.
Valid Massachusetts 2nd Class Fireman's License or higher.
High school diploma or GED required.
It would be advantageous to have a Massachusetts Hoisting License classifications 1C and 3A
Personal skills
The Power PlantOperator position would suit someone who has:
At least two years' experience in a Control Room of a Power Plant / Boiler house or similar Industrial setting.
Ability to lift 50 pounds.
Ability to navigate the heating plant using stairs and ladders.
Able to remain active for 12 hour periods
