Job Summary
The Operations Technician operates from established and well-known procedures under minimum supervision performing duties independently with only general direction given. The Operations Technician encounters recurring work situations of moderate complexity, with occasional variations from the norm. Decisions are made within prescribed operating and casualty procedures and guidelines.
The Operations Technician must perform work in a safe manner resulting in no accidents, in compliance with all environmental permits at all times. Must effectively communicate information to supervision and fellow plant personnel, relative to the condition of the plant equipment and performance and provide suggestions for plant improvements. The Operations Technician must perform duties in such a way to result in an optimum cost-benefit ratio. Job Functions
Assist in start-up, shut-down and normal operations of power plant systems.
Operate major auxiliary apparatus such as: air compressors; circulating water systems; boiler feedwater treatment system; water systems; boiler feedwater and condensate system; and locally controlled electrical and mechanical equipment.
Perform operating tests and inspections and make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment assigned to achieve proper operating conditions.
Execute orders from the Shift Supervisor/Control Room Operator on isolated panels for clearing equipment or making it ready for service in accordance with operating instructions and procedures; clear, tag, test and safety tape these operations.
Perform routine water chemistry analysis..

Education and Experience - An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
Must be able to obtain a Low Pressure Black Seal NJ Boiler Operator license within 6 months of employment.
Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school.
Minimum of two years of experience in Power PlantOperations desirable.
Experience in water chemistry control, analysis of water conditions, water treatment facility operations and chemical handling requirements is required.
Theoretical and practical knowledge of combustion/steam turbine operations, closed system steam generation, industrial safety, hazardous waste management and inspection/recording of plant parameters is highly desirable.
Experience with piping and instrument schematics and process controls desirable.

Job Description
Position Purpose:
Operates and performs maintenance at two surface water treatment plants and all other operating facilities (booster stations, tanks, pits, etc). Person is required to maintain proper production and maintenance records, and perform all routine chemical tests required to ensure that water quality standards are met.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
Position reports directly to the Production Manager.
Function as PlantOperator or Maintenance Technician based upon rotation of schedule setup by Production Manager. Work overtime as required and respond to emergencies outside of normal working hours.
Monitor and operate two surface water treatment plants and all other operating facilities within the distribution system utilizing the SCADA system. Assume responsibility for manual water treatment operation during SCADA system failures.
Determine scope and severity of system problems, which would require the attention of a supervisor and contact same.
Ensure that the water quality from the treatment facilities meets or exceeds the requirements of the Federal Safe Drinking Water Act, the requirements of the State of Delaware, and Company standards.
Collect samples and perform all routine chemical tests such as alkalinity; jar tests, pH, chlorine, fluoride, etc. as required to properly monitor the treatment process.
Understand and interpret the results of said testing to make/suggest process adjustments to the water treatment system.
Perform emergency operating procedures for the treatment plant.
Keep proper operational and maintenance logs and records.
Understand and/or perform standard operating procedures for filters, pump, and or other water treatment equipment.
Regularly monitor SCADA to identify trends and detect emerging problems.
Maintains good housekeeping procedures at the plant. Performs routine housekeeping chores and special housekeeping as required.
Conducts safety inspections and follows all safety rules and procedures.
Load and unloads chemicals used at the treatment plants.
Performs operations in accordance with established SOPs and job safety standards.
Understand the operation of the water treatment residuals system and operate as required.
Perform maintenance duties per the online computer-based Work Order system via use of desktop computer or Ipad.
Perform maintenance repairs of pumps, valves, piping, and chemical feed systems as appropriate.
Respond to chemical spills and address as appropriate.
Ensure that adequate quantities of chemical are available to meet treatment requirements and that chemicals are being fed at the proper rates.
Maintain an awareness and practice safe operating procedures in conformance with OSHA Regulations and Company safety policies.

Qualifications
Education/Experience/Background:
High School Diploma/GED is required.
One to three years minimum in the fields of water treatment, equipment/pump maintenance, chemical maintenance or similar required.

In Area 2000, operate pumps, regeneration columns, acid/caustic dilution stations and other equipment to perform chemical regenerations to convert, steam, rinse, hot rinse, backwash, and mix/package processed ion exchange resins to H+ and OH- ionic forms.
In Area 3000, operate pumps, regeneration columns, chemical metering/dilution stations and other equipment to convert, regenerate, steam, rinse, hot rinse, backwash, disinfect, dewater, etc. a variety of products. Also, operate specialty equipment, including a filter press and stirred tank systems.
In Area 4000, operate pumps, carbon loading, acid washing, dewatering, drying, dust control and packaging equipment to produce and package various grades of granular activated carbon products.
In Area 6000, operate pumps, regeneration columns, chemical metering/dilution stations and other equipment to separate, regenerate and re-mix a variety of products. Also, operate dry-blending equipment for blending of finished resins.
In Area 7100, operate pumps, mixing vessels and polymerization reactors to polymerize flammable monomers to solid polymer bead precursors within OSHA PSM requirements, as well as operate a slurry tank for transfer to downstream finishing areas.

POSITION PURPOSE The Chemical Operator will monitor and operate equipment and facilities, including field equipment, ensuring quality and conformance with standard operating procedures. Performs all work according to OSHA, MSHA, and H&K Safety policies
Create a safe worksite
Maintain equipment (Q326, LT105, Pickup)
Crush up site material using Q326 trackhoe and LT105 portable crusher
Identify site needs and develop plan to complete job efficiently
Work with team members
Clean, pack up, and help transport equipment
Other duties as assigned

Position Description:
We are a private investor-owned water company producing and providing potable water to over 250,000 customers (over 800,000 population) to an over 600 square mile area surrounding the city of Philadelphia. With nine treatment plants, the company can treat and deliver 150 million gallons of water to customers each day. The plants treat water from the Crum, Pickering, Brandywine, Perkiomen, Neshaminy, Ridley and Chester Creeks, the Schuylkill and Delaware Rivers and the Upper Merion Quarry (vertical reservoir). Its primary surface water reservoirs can store nearly 10 billion gallons. Average daily usage on the system is about 115 million gallons a day.
SUMMARY:
This co-op intern position consists of a combination of both field work and office work. You will also interact and work with many different departments including but not limited to mechanical/electrical, treatment, operations, engineering, environmental compliance, and the laboratory. Our goal is to provide an environment where you can learn the drinking water treatment and regulatory process through real world problem solving and apply what you have learned to your future career goals. We are looking for a full-time recruit for a 6-month co-op time period.
This is a highly dynamic and everchanging role based on the needs at the time. We want eager, go-getter types, who can think and act independently with minimal oversight.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (Primary Duties and Responsibilities)
* Sampling various water treatment and distribution sites for analytes such as volatile organic
compounds, coliform bacteria, total organic content, and phosphate.
* Testing for various parameters such as chlorine residual and ph.
* Working with other departments to implement new technology or treatment options and creating reports based on findings.
* Assisting staff and managers with project implementation and those associated work tasks.
* Pick up and drop off material, samples, bottles, etc. as needed.
* Data collection and entry for monthly/quarterly compliance reports and organization of data collected at our remote well stations in order to ensure compliance with Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection regulations.
* You may help update SOPs and may also spend some time in the company laboratory.
* Data analysis, data pulls, documentation organization from SCADA, LIMS, or WIMS software.
* You will have the opportunity to be an integral part of a company that impacts public health of customers it serves by providing earth's most essential resource.
QUALIFICATIONS (Required Experience, Education, Licenses, and Certifications)
* Preferred Majors: Arts & Sci. - Environmental Studies, Biology, Natural Sciences, Sustainability
* Must be 18 years of age or older.
* Possess valid driver's license.
* Live locally. A company car will be provided for on the job use only (not for home travel commuting)
* Knowledge of the five (5) county area surrounding Philadelphia
* Ability to work independently to complete assignments.
* Ability to communicate clearly in speech and writing.
* Mindset to improve processes, efficiency, or way of work highly desirable.
* Basic knowledge of chemistry and chemical calculations. Basic math/conversion skills.
* Willingness to work in a drinking water plant environment.

Job Description
Position Purpose:
Operates and performs maintenance at two surface water treatment plants and all other operating facilities (booster stations, tanks, pits, etc). Person is required to maintain proper production and maintenance records, and perform all routine chemical tests required to ensure that water quality standards are met.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
Position reports directly to the Production Manager.
Function as PlantOperator or Maintenance Technician based upon rotation of schedule setup by Production Manager. Work overtime as required and respond to emergencies outside of normal working hours.
Monitor and operate two surface water treatment plants and all other operating facilities within the distribution system utilizing the SCADA system. Assume responsibility for manual water treatment operation during SCADA system failures.
Determine scope and severity of system problems, which would require the attention of a supervisor and contact same.
Ensure that the water quality from the treatment facilities meets or exceeds the requirements of the Federal Safe Drinking Water Act, the requirements of the State of Delaware, and Company standards.
Collect samples and perform all routine chemical tests such as alkalinity; jar tests, pH, chlorine, fluoride, etc. as required to properly monitor the treatment process.
Understand and interpret the results of said testing to make/suggest process adjustments to the water treatment system.
Perform emergency operating procedures for the treatment plant.
Keep proper operational and maintenance logs and records.
Understand and/or perform standard operating procedures for filters, pump, and or other water treatment equipment.
Regularly monitor SCADA to identify trends and detect emerging problems.
Maintains good housekeeping procedures at the plant. Performs routine housekeeping chores and special housekeeping as required.
Conducts safety inspections and follows all safety rules and procedures.
Load and unloads chemicals used at the treatment plants.
Performs operations in accordance with established SOPs and job safety standards.
Understand the operation of the water treatment residuals system and operate as required.
Perform maintenance duties per the online computer-based Work Order system via use of desktop computer or Ipad.
Perform maintenance repairs of pumps, valves, piping, and chemical feed systems as appropriate.
Respond to chemical spills and address as appropriate.
Ensure that adequate quantities of chemical are available to meet treatment requirements and that chemicals are being fed at the proper rates.
Maintain an awareness and practice safe operating procedures in conformance with OSHA Regulations and Company safety policies.
Demonstrate commitment to public service and public health.
All other duties as assigned or required.
Qualifications
Education/Experience/Background:
High School Diploma/GED is required.
One to three years minimum in the fields of water treatment, equipment/pump maintenance, chemical maintenance or similar required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Ability to perform water quality tests and maintain various water treatment equipment.
Ability to operate all equipment used in performing water treatment tasks.
Excellent Written and oral communication.
Understanding of Basic chemistry.
Ability to work with peers as a team player.
Perform maintenance and operational tasks of substantial variety and complexity without close technical supervision.
Knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, chemical principles.

Current State of Delaware Operators License, or ability to acquire via reciprocity preferred.
