The Scientist II will independently develop and evaluate flavor systems for application and evaluation of flavors with the use of proprietary technologies in support of customers and McCormick. Additionally, this role will be the interface with customers, R&D teams, and assist in responding to specific project requests. Assist and leverage the development of new flavors/ingredients and new methodologies and contribute to technically driven business development activities in the Healthcare Flavor applications area.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leading flavor applications and prototype development in healthcare & confectionary products and providing excellent flavor applications support for Industrial Customers.
Facilitating complex projects including planning and leading cross functional project teams, defining, and assessing project requirements and designing and managing experiments.
Building competency within the area of healthcare & confectionary Flavor Applications.
Project Management: Plan and lead project teams, defining and assessing of project requirements, designing, and managing experiments.
Investigate and assess new ingredients and technologies.
Provide support as an internal expert on projects performed in other groups within McCormick, with outside consultants, and / or with vendors.
Commercialization of products (understanding of processes and operations for product manufacture) and troubleshooting problems.
Offer Technical Support for formulations to Operation and Quality functions.
Interface and communicate project status with customers and commercial team.
Supervise and instruct lower-level employees.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
BSc in Food Science/Technology, Food Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field
5-10 years' experience in the food and/or flavor industry including:
At least 3 yrs. of healthcare or confectionary Flavor applications in a flavor house AND/OR
At least 3 yrs. of healthcare or confections Product Development within a consumer products company.
Strong experience with healthcare and/or confectionary Flavor Delivery Systems, Ingredients and Flavors
Excellent communication skills.
Ability to interpret data and solve complex problems with incomplete information.
Ability to manage risk in making critical decisions.
Project management and ability to interact, seek advice, teach, influence, and negotiate.
Demonstrate the ability to influence across the organization.
Ability to make presentations that cover technical topics, R&D capabilities, etc.
An in-depth understanding of ingredients and technology along with their impact on product taste and functionality.

Base Salary: $72,930 to $127,640
Base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, experience for this role, and/or internal equity of our current employees as part of any final offer. Spearhead Research & Innovation: Stay on the cutting edge of ML, Deep Learning, and LLMs, specifically their application to the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), and identify novel opportunities to enhance our products.

The experience that you need
An advanced academic background (Master's or PhD) in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related quantitative field.
Strong industry experience in machine learning, with a solid understanding of modern software engineering practices and tools.
Solid programming skills in Python and hands-on experience with core ML/DL frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face). Familiarity with Java is a plus.
Proven experience in applied Machine Learning, with a strong focus on Natural Language Processing (NLP) or, ideally, Programming Language Processing (PLP).

The successful applicants will start in the Spring 2025 semester and work on the project entitled "In-situ vortex manipulation and trapped flux removal in superconducting electronic devices", funded by Army Research Laboratory within the basic-research program "Foundation of Superconducting Digital Logic".
The project is a collaborative effort between research groups located at Northern Illinois University (NIU), the University of Notre Dame, Argonne National Laboratory, The University of Bath (UK), and University of Antwerp (Belgium), respectively.
The efforts at NIU are led by Prof. Andreas Glatz and involves seven PIs in total. The theoretical/computation aspects of the research include large-scale numerical simulations and theoretical analysis of vortex dynamics in patterned superconducting films.
The goal is to develop efficient methods to remove trapped flux from superconducting electronic circuits.
Position Summary
Under the supervision of the NIU senior faculty and theory PIs of the project, the successful postdoctoral scholar will work on the theory and simulation of the dynamical processes in complex superconducting heterostructure relevant for superconducting digital logic devices. The obtained simulation results will be analyzed and verified with experimental observations in collaboration with the experimentalist in the project.
The main focus is on the study of the dynamics of superconducting magnetic vortices and their control. A strong computational background is essential for the position.
Research results should be prepared for publication in appropriate scientific journals.
The conducted research will enhance the scholar's professional skill and research training to pursue his/her chosen career path.

About the role
The RD&A Senior Scientist will report to the RD&A Coatings Appetizer Manager and is responsible for product development, technical expertise, and ownership of key Food Service customer accounts related to breaded and fried poultry and associated meal applications.
This role requires the ability to independently deliver customer projects, understand commercial production capabilities, and lead products from initial development through commercialization.
