The Quality Technician plays a critical role in ensuring products meet customer requirements, internal quality standards, and regulatory expectations in a contract manufacturing environment. This position performs inspections, testing, and documentation to validate materials, components, and finished products while supporting continuous improvement initiatives and corrective action processes. Duties/Responsibilities: Inspection & Testing * Inspect parts using a variety of measurement tools including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, indicators, and CMM (if applicable). * Identify nonconforming material and initiate containment activities as necessary. Continuous improvement * Support and implement lean manufacturing principles * Conduct 5S improvements Documentation & Records * Accurately complete inspection records, control charts, and quality documentation. * Maintain traceability and documentation in accordance with customer, internal, and regulatory requirements. * Support document control efforts for work instructions, procedures, and inspection criteria. Problem Solving & Corrective Actions * Assist in root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) activities. * Participate in investigations related to internal and customer quality issues. * Support continuous improvement projects focused on defect reduction and process improvement. Supplier & Customer Support * Assist with supplier quality issues including incoming inspection and communication. * Support customer returns (RMA) and complaint investigations. * Prepare quality reports as needed to communicate inspection results and trends. Compliance & Quality Systems * Support adherence to ISO, AS, or customer-specific quality system requirements. * Participate in internal audits and audit preparation efforts when required. * Follow all safety and quality policies and procedures. Required Skills/Abilities: * Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications. * Proficiency with hand inspection tools (calipers, micrometers, indicators). * Familiarity with GD&T and blueprint interpretation. * Basic computer skills (Microsoft Excel, ERP systems, quality software). * Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. * Experience with CMM or advanced metrology equipment preferred. * Knowledge of ISO 9001 / AS9100 standards. Education and Experience: * High school diploma or equivalent. * 2 - 4 years of experience in quality inspection or manufacturing environment. * Experience in manufacturing, machining, or assembly operations. * Associate degree or technical certification in Quality, Engineering, or Manufacturing preferred. * Experience with CMM or advanced metrology equipment preferred. The ideal candidate will have experience in a manufacturing environment, strong analytical skills, and a passion for maintaining high-quality standards. While prior industry experience is preferred, we are willing to train and develop the right individual. Key Responsibilities Perform in-process, final, and first-piece inspections to ensure product conformance to engineering specifications and blueprints. Conduct visual and dimensional inspections using precision instruments such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and optical comparators. Perform other tasks as requested by management. Qualifications Education: High school diploma or GED required; technical or associate degree in manufacturing, engineering, or quality is a plus. Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in quality assurance or inspection within a manufacturing environment. Background in machining, foundry, heat treat, or magnetic materials is a plus. Required Skills: Proficient in blueprint reading and interpretation (basic GD&T required). Strong understanding of measurement methods and metrology principles. Hands-on experience with inspection tools (calipers, micrometers, indicators, gauges, etc.). Excellent attention to detail and documentation accuracy. Strong math and geometry/trigonometry skills. Effective communication and teamwork abilities. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment. Preferred Skills: Experience with SPC, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement methods. Familiarity with AS9100/ISO9001 quality systems. Exposure to Lean Manufacturing concepts. Experience with Keyence IM systems and Net-Inspect portals. UPM Quality Technician assures that the product supplied to our customers meets the Quality parameters set forth by United Performance Metals and that each shipment conforms to all specified agreed customer, regulatory, and internal requirements. This is an entry-level position within the Quality Department. Compensation is $22-23/ hour depending on experience. Daily Activities Include: Review product certifications for release acceptance or discrepancy resolution. Receive purchased material in Stratix System. Unloading material from trucks. Weighting and measuring materials when received. Break down packaging and repacking as needed. Identify and quarantine nonconforming material. Place items on hold quality hold physically and virtually. Conduct inspection of product when required or requested. Assist with inspection layout, set-up as needed.
