BAE Systems, one of the world s largest defense contractors and a Fortune 500 Company, is hiring a well rounded Mechanical Engineer to help us conceptualize, execute, and commission modernization and new construction projects at Holston Army Ammunition Plant. In this position, you will be supporting the Ordnance Systems, Inc. (OSI) Business at our Kingsport, TN facility. This position will work a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off, and our hybrid approach provides plenty of on-site collaboration and support for new staff onboarding as well as the flexibility for working remotely some days.
In this role, you will be responsible for mechanical engineering and technical tasks to support design, construction and commissioning of multi-million dollar modernization programs. Your work will include planning, design, analysis, and engineering inputs into the construction and maintenance of chemical plant facilities. You will take process flow diagrams created by chemical engineers to specify mechanical equipment that meet required temperature and pressure ranges. You will provide technical oversight during the actual field installation and commissioning of equipment.
This position requires a high degree of technical competence regarding the broad application of mechanical engineering principles to the development of new capabilities and/or solutions to customers challenging modernization problems.
You will perform one or more of the following mechanical engineering functions:
+ Work with a multi-discipline engineering team to perform plant and project engineering. Select construction materials and methods, write specifications, supervise and prepare mechanical drawings, control cost, and manage work to meet project schedules
+ Perform mechanical engineering analyses for one or more of the following: steam systems, hydraulic systems, pumping / piping systems, HVAC systems, machinery design and layout, process cooling and heating systems, storage tank design and construction, vessel design and construction, inspection and repair
+ Conduct inspections of existing facilities such as buildings, equipment, and pipelines to determine the integrity and safety. Make recommendations concerning any needed modifications
+ Support development of plans and schedules for the construction phase of projects ensuring that materials, equipment, and personnel will be available to meet project schedules

**Pay Information**
Full-Time Salary Range: $96623 - $164259

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, other duties may be assigned.
Work directly with Sales and Manufacturing.
Follow customer specifications to complete product designs.
Work with Mechanical Designers to select components, develop drawings and maintain as-built revisions.
Advise Mechanical Designers in the creating and modifying of 3D models and 2D drawings SolidWorks.
Create and modify 3D models and 2D drawings in SolidWorks or AutoCAD as needed.
Select proper components and generate BOM's.
Provide needed calculations for tanks and/or pressure piping components.
Work with vendors to introduce new and cost-effective products into our systems.
Participate in the inspections of products in various stages of the production process.
Help maintain our ASME Quality Control System.
Participate in Continuous Improvement Initiatives to develop better procedures and increase efficiency.
Assist Project Management with customer interface and act as a SME for Mechanical Design queries.
Create and update internal documents for Engineering Procedures and Training

Education and Experience:
Bachelor of Science in Engineering or equivalent technical background.
Strong background using SolidWorks for 3D modeling.
A minimum of 5 years' experience with capital equipment is preferred.
A working knowledge of ASME Pressure Vessel Codes, boilers, heat transfer equipment, or auxiliary boiler room equipment is preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
Ability to work independently after proper training and be a self-starter.
Proficiency with SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
Knowledge and experience with PDM or PLM software is preferred.
Experience with Codeware Compress is preferred.
Effective time management and organizational skills.
Ability to communicate professionally and clearly.
Willingness to work in a collaborative environment and be a team player.
Physical Demands:
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Work Environment:
This position must perform tasks that involve mainly office exposure, sitting behind a desk performing tasks on a computer. Most of their time, the employee will spend time in the office with low to moderate exposure to noise, heat, and cold environment, other physical requirements include walking, bending, hand dexterity, speaking, seeing, and lifting/moving up to 15 pounds. Steel toe shoes, earplugs and safety glasses are always required while on the production floor.

🧭 Platform Ownership & Strategy
Architect and operationalize a Kubernetes platform(s) on AWS supporting multi-account, multi-region deployments aligned with AWS Well-Architected principles.
Define platform capabilities including compute autoscaling, pod networking, network policies, load balancing, and storage drivers.
Define paved path container standards and support consumption of those standards.
Lead platform roadmap development and cross-functional alignment with architecture, security, FinOps, and product engineering.

Qualifications
10+ years of experience in cloud-native infrastructure, with deep expertise in Kubernetes (e.g., Native, Amazon EKS and Amazon ECS).
Proven track record of designing and operating production-grade Kubernetes platforms in multi-account AWS environments.
Strong proficiency in infrastructure-as-code (CDK with Python), AWS DevOps native CI/CD tooling, and observability stacks (e.g. CloudWatch).
Experience implementing security controls, RBAC, and compliance frameworks (e.g., CIS Benchmarks).
Demonstrated ability to influence technical direction across multiple teams and domains.
Preferred Experience
Familiarity with GitOps workflows, and container security.
Exposure to platform engineering and internal developer platforms.
