Job Description:
This position is for a mechanical engineer to design, develop and release LRU mounting, shock and vibration attenuation mounting, radio racks, brush guards, and all aspects of stowage on military ground vehicles.
Depending on workload demands, this person may also work in other areas such as fuel systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and automatic fire suppression systems, driver controls, lighting, crew seating, and other mechanical subsystems.
Responsibilities:
Design and integrate shock/vibration LRU mounts, complete stowage packaging, and other mechanical elements into military vehicles. This will include working with suppliers to develop the subsystems and design components to meet vehicle performance requirements including human factors, safety, environmental and mine blast requirements.
Apply mechanics of materials, material selection, welding, and fabrication principles for mechanical components and complex welded brackets, mounting provisions.
Decompose vehicle performance requirements in order to perform system analysis and select appropriate components such as sensors, cables, handles, springs, pedals, and mechanisms and conduct detailed design of fluid system custom components.
Generate key characteristics, component specifications and perform component selection for supplier purchased parts.
Support various projects by doing analysis & design, drawing mark-ups, tolerance stacks and generating source data for engineering changes.
Write material requests and shop work requests, track delivery and stock of parts, participate in integration reviews, fit checks, and write reports.
Provide support to prototype and production vehicle build and follow-up, technical corrective action formulation, troubleshooting and redesign activities.
Present design concepts and program status to functional and program management.
Write test plans and perform testing and evaluation of systems.
Direct and oversee CAD model and drawing development.
Conduct failure analysis and corrective action along with responsible for technical writing and presentations.
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (preferred), Mechatronics, or related field, from an ABET accredited program.
10+ years of engineering experience in the defense, aerospace, or automotive industry. Military land vehicle experience is preferred.
Prior experience with Teamcenter and Vis Mockup.
Experience creating and releasing components, assembly models, and detailed drawings using NX or Creo.

Education: PhD, or Masters with a minimum of 2 years, or BS with a minimum of 3 years in Optical Sciences, Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related field
2+ years' experience in optical metrology instruments is required, such as profilometers and interferometers. Experienced in FIZEAU interferometer is a plus
Strong hands-on skills for engineering and handling fragile parts with attention to detail and quality
Strong computer skills with programming and modeling concepts as a plus
Understanding the impact of surface characteristics on the performance of optics
Basic knowledge and experience in precision optics fabrication is a plus
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work as part of a team to solve problems of scientific and technological interest to RIT
Ability to learn new equipment and processes quickly

Job Description
BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
Design optical surfaces for lens and reflector systems for forward and rearward automotive illumination systems.
Validate design via internal and external optical ray tracing software
Create tools to assist in optical product development
Review final product for correlation and product sign-off
Attend night drives for headlamp evaluations
Support program quoting, feasibility
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
Define feasibility of lamp assemblies per function and deliver feasibility reports
Attend customer meetings for lamp feasibility and performance issues
Create optical surfaces on lens and reflectors to meet regulatory and customer requirements
Give input to optical program software development for enhancements as needed
Validate/correlate product with photometric testing equipment
Assist in program night drive evaluations including analysis of product
Solve photometry issues with mfg. plant locations
Define hardware and software requirements

Educational Requirement
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (in optics/physics) or Engineering/Mathematics background or equivalent work experience
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Experience with LED properties
Knowledgeable of regulatory specifications
3-5 years optic design experience in Exterior Automotive Lighting
Experience with CAD systems
