Job Description
Summary:
The Product Development Engineer (PDE) is a manufacturing expert who interprets engineering prints and develops the process flow to ensure the product gets made correctly and all requirements are met. PDEs are the focal of the pre-production IPT. They commonly work with design engineers, manufacturing engineers, quality engineers, production planners, and tool designers. They report to their assigned manager in the Engineering Department.
In early product development, the PDE is mostly generating process flows and CAD for intermediate stages of fabrication and production. Once reviewed, the PDE works with planning to generate detailed routing. When hardware is available, the PDE works with manufacturing engineers and operators to prototype and troubleshoot until a production-ready process and configuration passes inspection.
The product:
The primary product of the Senior Aerospace SSP is welded sheet metal parts and assemblies, with a focus on complex pneumatic high-pressure aerospace ducting. Other products include bellows and flexible joint assemblies, machined parts, additively manufactured metal and polymers parts, insulation covers, and small composite parts.

Review new product drawings and models.
Generate planning flow for new products (determine method of manufacturing, sequence of operations, MCD and tool needs, in-process inspection requirements, etc.)
Create Manufacturing Control models and Drawings (MCD's). The PDE will reverse engineer product models and drawings to generate increasingly regressive manufacturing forms, all the way back to stock material.
Review manufacturing routers for correctness and completeness.

Perform or be accountable for manufacturing simulations (e.g., forming simulation, layup simulations, etc.), as required
Organize and run Manufacturing Readiness Reviews and drive outstanding actions to completion
Review & disposition rejection reports, including root cause and corrective action
Estimate time, tooling, and operations/methods for spares quotations & new program proposals
Be consulted on inspection plans, tool designs, routing updates, Production Readiness Reviews, and process improvements
Help develop or update standards/documentation based on lessons learned
There are no supervisory responsibilities associated with this position. However, the PDE is expected to help guide/train members of the IPT or more junior PDEs as required.
Adhere to the principles of APQP and AS9100
Follow all company policies and processes
Other duties as assigned

Mechanical Sub-Systems Engineer, Experienced
Research and development engineer job in Mojave, CA
What you'll do:
Depending on size and complexity, a Subsystems Engineer may own one or more vehicle systems (Propulsion, Fuel / Energy Storage, Electrical, Avionics, Landing Gear, Flight Controls, Hydraulics, Environmental Controls / Pressurization, etc.), or they may work on a team helping to develop a single system to maturity. Regardless, these engineers are responsible for fleshing out an initial requirement and translating that into a design that meshes with the overall aircraft goals. This means conceptualizing a solution, negotiating detailed requirements, performing detailed design and analysis, developing definition (models, drawings, schematics, work instructions), supervising fabrication and installation, defining and performing operational tests, and ultimately, acting as a system subject matter expert as the vehicle moves into integrated tests and flight.
The Subsystems Engineer will get to explore the nooks and crannies (i.e. bowels and hell-holes) of our airplanes all while smelling like jet fuel, contorting under cabin floors, climbing into engine nacelles, squinting at multi-meters, and trying to figure out why the thing isn't doing the thing it's supposed to. If this is your idea of a good time, we'd love to learn more about you!
We are looking to add experienced subsystems engineers to our team. Ideally, these candidates would have the capability and drive to evolve into leadership positions in rather quick fashion. If you've worked on aircraft systems in depth, and can bring a significant body of knowledge and abilities on day one, please consider applying!
Category: Engineering
Location: Mojave, CA
Citizenship Required: United States Citizenship

Auto-ApplyElectro-Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer
Research and development engineer job in Los Angeles, CA
K2 is building the largest and highest-power satellites ever flown, unlocking performance levels previously out of reach across every orbit. Backed by $450M from leading investors including Altimeter Capital, Redpoint Ventures, T. Rowe Price, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Alpine Space Ventures, and others - with an additional $500M in signed contracts across commercial and US government customers - we're mass-producing the highest-power satellite platforms ever built for missions from LEO to deep space.
The rise of heavy-lift launch vehicles is shifting the industry from an era of mass constraint to one of mass abundance, and we believe this new era demands a fundamentally different class of spacecraft. Engineered to survive the harshest radiation environments and to fully capitalize on today's and tomorrow's massive rockets, K2 satellites deliver unmatched capability at constellation scale and across multiple orbits.
With multiple launches planned through 2026 and 2027, we're Building Bigger to develop the solar system and become a Kardashev Type II (K2) civilization. If you are a motivated individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and you're excited about contributing to the success of a groundbreaking Series C space startup, we'd love for you to apply.
The Role
Partnering with design engineers early on in the process, you will ensure manufacturability, build the first prototype, design the build flow and fixturing, and finalize the process for transition to production. You will test out new techniques for manufacturing large satellite structures, harnessing, mechanisms, and integrated electronics systems. In your first 6 months you will develop manufacturing methods and tooling for integrated avionics systems, define manufacturing flows for subsystems, and collaborate with design teams to improve the manufacturability of spacecraft components. Develop innovative manufacturing systems for large spacecraft assemblies, including electromechanical sub-assemblies, harnessing, welded/bolted structures, and mechanisms
Create custom tools and processes to support the manufacturing technologies you create including Manufacturing Execution System (MES) software
Demonstrate the advanced manufacturing techniques on prototypes, working with the design teams to improve the manufacturability of the designs
Develop the subassembly build flow and iterate to create an efficient production flow for the satellite
Partner with a team of advanced manufacturing engineers to perform R&D of novel manufacturing technologies for current and future spacecraft products
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, aerospace, or other relevant engineering discipline
3+ years of experience in a high volume, rapid production environment in a manufacturing, integration, and/or design engineering role
Demonstrated results with product development and/or process improvements
Experience setting up a manufacturing/production floor for first article builds
Experience designing and implementing technologies for avionics subassembly manufacturing including wire harness manufacturing and PCBA/mechanical enclosure assembly
Nice to Have
Experience designing tooling for mechanical subassemblies and electronics
Experience designing hardware for manufacturability
Demonstrated experience developing production processes from the ground up including driving design improvements for manufacturing
Experience working closely with technicians and build tooling
Experience with aerospace manufacturing standards such as soldering standards, torque specifications, welding standards, and quality assurance standards
Familiarity with CAD software (NX or equivalent) and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
Experience working with MES to set up the foundation for procedure creation and documenting non-conformances
