This role is responsible for driving formulation excellence, supporting scale-up from bench to production, and ensuring products perform consistently, efficiently, and safely. Responsibilities
Develop, optimize, and reformulate ingredient solutions including powders, pastes, butters, inclusions, and blends
Lead formulation scale-up from bench to pilot to commercial production
Troubleshoot formulation and processing challenges related to texture, viscosity, stability, oxidation, color, flavor, and shelf-life
Partner with Operations to adapt formulations to equipment capabilities, line constraints, yields, and sanitation requirements
Support and participate in plant trials, first production runs, and continuous improvement efforts
Collaborate with Sales and customers to solve application challenges and support customer trials and approvals
Clearly communicate technical tradeoffs and recommendations to customers and internal stakeholders
Prepare and maintain technical documentation including specifications, technical data sheets, and sample notes
Support cost-in-use optimization while maintaining product performance, quality, and clean-label objectives
Maintain working knowledge of food safety, regulatory, labeling, and allergen requirements
Support customer audits, specification development, and documentation requests
Demonstrate ownership of projects from concept through commercialization and post-launch support

In this role, you will:
* Serve as Product / Process Development Lead for moderately complex projects, ensuring technical rigor across R&D project deliverables.
* Collaborate with R&D and cross-functional teams and make technical recommendations that improve efficiency, support preferred solutions and manage risk to achieve project outcomes.
* Build a strong understanding of test methods, including their strengths and limitations, and apply them effectively for robust claim substantiation.

Job Description
The Center for Global Security Research (CGSR) was established at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) in 1996 to bring together experts from the science, technology, and policy communities to address pressing national security challenges. For over 20 years, CGSR has engaged diverse perspectives on topics important to national security, deterrence, diplomacy, dual-use technology, arms control, nonproliferation, space, cyber, biosecurity, and energy security.
We have openings in Summer 2026 for undergraduate students to engage in practical research on global security topics. Students will work with CGSR over the duration of three to four months as a research associate (RA). RAs will engage in practical research to further their educational and career goals, while also supporting the development of strategies for national security and LLNL's mission focus areas. Examples of relevant fields of research include nuclear deterrence, arms control, nonproliferation, emerging technologies, cybersecurity, space, biological & chemical security, and energy security.
CGSR's objectives are as follows:
* To explore the dynamics of potential 21st century strategic conflicts (i.e., those with a potential nuclear aspect) and to formulate ideas about how to achieve U.S. deterrence and other objectives in such conflicts.

* To identify whether and how technically based approaches can address new challenges to national and international security.

* Conduct an independent research project on an agreed upon topic aligned with CGSR/LLNL research priorities under the supervision of CGSR staff.
* Support CGSR/LLNL through contributions to ongoing research activities. Tasks may include contributing to literature reviews, annotated bibliographies, and workshop summary reports.
* Attend relevant research seminars, speakers' series, and workshops.
* Present research to LLNL staff at end of the assignment.

Security Clearance
