A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION PROVIDING POSITIVE CHOICES FOR PEOPLE WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES AND TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURIES SINCE 1984
Mike first realized his dream in 1984, when he purchased a comfortable ranch house with some acreage nestled in the oak-covered, green hills west of Atascadero.
1984: Assumed operation for two specialized adult foster care homes on a contractual basis with Clinton-Eaton-Ingham-Community Mental Health (CEI-CMH) Board.
1985: Assumed operation for two additional specialized adult foster care homes with CEI-Community Mental Health Board, specializing in serving persons with developmental disabilities with behavioral challenges.
Life Enrichment Options (LEO) was born here in 1988 out of the need of mothers of young adults with developmental disabilities.
The Rose House opened in February 2003 for 5 individuals and a full time caregiver to call home.
Purchased a home in Issaquah from King County, and opened the Ann House for five individuals with developmental disabilities and a caregiver in December 2006.
Partnered again with Polygon Northwest to build our third home, the Angela House, in the Issaquah Highlands which was completed in May 2012.
Provided representation on the local parks and recreation special population’s recreation committee and in May 2014 began to offer our own recreational programs for those with disabilities.
ROOF was founded as a nonprofit corporation in 2014 with support from the Florida Developmental Disabilities Council (FDDC). The organization was formed as a result of the work of the FDDC Florida Inclusive Housing Task Force.
The administration opened for business in September 2015.
In 2016, ROOF held its first statewide conference on housing for people with developmental disabilities.
In 2017, the Board of Directors, considering how ROOF could have the greatest impact, decided that ROOF would become a provider of affordable housing for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
