What You'll DoRecovery & Skill-Building
Promote principles of recovery-oriented and psychiatric rehabilitation services
Support participants in developing and working toward individualized recovery and wellness goals

Community-Based Support
Assist participants in accessing and navigating mental health, substance use, and social service systems

Bridge gaps between physical health care and behavioral health treatment
Coordination & Crisis Support

Summary of the Position: Youth Advocate Programs has developed a flexible Truancy Intervention Program model that adapts to the specific needs of urban, suburban, and rural schools. We are committed to working with students at the highest risk of school failure and those with the most complex needs, including court-involved juveniles, special needs youth, and students residing in low-income housing. These students may be:
At high risk of expulsion or suspension
Failing in school due to the problems at home
Presenting behavioral problems
Returning from Juvenile Detention
Truant
Experiencing school phobia/bullying issues
Involved in substance abuse
Emotionally or developmentally challenged
Job duties include, but are not limited to:
Implementing treatment plans
Developing monthly summaries regarding cases
Tracking/collecting data with regards to truancy (e.g., attendance, grades, contacts)
Case coordination, including:
Conducting/attending initial intake sessions for new cases
Daily direct face-to-face interaction with clients and/or caregivers, suggesting, implementing, and transferring behavior therapeutic skills/strategies to permanently reduce specific truant issues
Transporting participants to and from school
Checking in on participants in school throughout the day, meeting as needed with school staff, conducting community searches for missing participants (and returning them to school)
Weekly in-home visits with caregivers and/or participants to discuss case progression and current issues/concerns (including a formal case review once per month)
Attending local magistrate and juvenile court hearings involving current cases; researching and linking appropriate community resources to caregivers and participants
Availability: Ability to work flexible hours up to 40 hours per week and must be available in morning hours.
Hourly Rate: $20.00 per hour
Qualifications/Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED required.
Background/experience in Social Work, Psychology, and/or working in human services field a plus

Essential Duties and Functions
Direct Care
Delivers peer support services such as education, advocacy, and to foster engagement in treatment process
Provide recovery support education for persons enrolled, staff, and family members. This may include but is not limited to:

Paperwork and team meetings should not require more than 30% of the worker's time. The Peer Specialist will work directly with individuals receiving services, family members, providers and other stakeholders, at the direction of a supervisor. This position requires the candidate have direct, firsthand experience using mental health services as well as the forensic system in Allegheny County. This position will be a resource to individuals receiving services, families, and other stakeholders related to recovery initiatives.
Essential Duties and Functions
Program Responsibilities:
A. Promote principles of recovery with members, providers, and stakeholders.
B. Provide recovery coaching concerning; assisting in recovery management, identification of personal strengths/ assets, development of a strength-based recovery plan /recovery goals, and strategies to meet goals.
C. Assist in identifying or re-connecting to natural supports including but not limited to peer recovery supports and self-help groups in the community.
D. Assist in scheduling appointments as needed.

F. Assist with accessing and navigating mental health court, Adult Probation, Justice Related Services and the legal system.

J. Maintain Certification

RHD Glassport LTSR is a long-term structured residential program serving eligible adult males between the ages 18 to 65 who are residents of Allegheny County and have been diagnosed with serious mental illness and substance use disorder, or dually-diagnosed with an intellectual disability. Residents may also have a forensic history. Psych rehabilitation worker will work under the direction of the psych rehab specialist to assist participants to choose, acquire, and maintain the skills they need to successfully transition in from using skills-based and strength-based techniques. PRW will work in collaboration with program therapists, psych rehab facilitator and residents to assist with the implementation of psych rehab plan of care to increase client skill levels through group facilitation and individualized psych rehab activities.
Duties and responsibilities
Promote principles of recovery and psychiatric rehabilitation with participants, providers, and stakeholders.
Provide skill-building concerning assisting in recovery management, identification of personal strengths/ assets, development of a strength-based recovery plan /recovery goals, and strategies to meet goals.
Assist in identifying or re-connecting to natural supports including but not limited to peer recovery supports and self-help groups in the community.
Assist in scheduling appointments as needed.
Assist with accessing and navigating the mental health and/or D&A service system.
Assist with accessing and navigating mental health court, Adult Probation, Justice Related Services and the legal system.
Participate in treatment team meetings, continuing care (aftercare) meetings, as requested by the member.
Demonstrate flexibility in schedule in order to meet participant's needs.
Advocate for the member's community needs, medical, and behavioral health needs
Utilize motivational interviewing to effectively identify the member's strengths, needs, motivation, triggers, and goals in managing life circumstances.
Bridge the gap between the physical health care and behavioral health treatment.
Provide telephonic assistance to members and family members concerning recovery tools and resources.
Empower the member to self-advocate and follow through with treatment (making and attending scheduled appointments, setting goals, and community networking.
Utilize electronic health record to document and bill for services through electronic record software
Complete all other assigned tasks as designated by the Director.
Qualifications
HS diploma/ GED minimum, bachelor's preferred.
Minimum of 6 months direct care experience with clients with mental health, substance abuse or forensic issues.
Knowledge/Skills
• Psychiatric Rehabilitation principals
• Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills with staff and participants.
• Demonstrate excellent problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
• Demonstrate good organizational and time-management skills.
• Able to support and implement RHD and unit values and beliefs.
• Able to engage residents in an effective, therapeutic and recovery-oriented interactions.
