Position Summary
The SeniorHydrogeologist (Seller-Doer) will provide technical leadership, business development, and project execution for environmental investigation and remediation programs. This role combines client-facing sales, technical excellence, and team leadership, and serves as a key contributor to regional and national growth.
Essential Job Functions:
Business Development
* Build and expand an environmental investigation and remediation client portfolio through new client acquisition and repeat business.
* Partner with National Account Managers to position Tetra Tech for multinational and strategic client opportunities.
* Lead business development efforts within the Commercial, Industrial, Energy, and Transportation sectors.
* Develop marketing strategies, proposals, technical presentations, trade show participation, and client meetings.
* Foster strong relationships with clients, regulators, and project stakeholders.
* Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
* Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline-specific knowledge and awareness.
* Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
* Additional duties as required.
Leadership & Project Management
* Manage staff workload including staffing plans, proposals, deliverables, QA/QC, and backlog forecasting.
* Lead and motivate multidisciplinary project teams to meet project goals and milestones.
* Direct and manage marketing and business development efforts within the Commercial Program practice.
* Set and manage project expectations, budgets, schedules, and performance.
* Serve as Project Manager for environmental investigation and remediation projects.
Hydrogeology Expertise
* Provide hydrogeologic technical leadership to complex investigation and remediation projects.
* Lead field hydrogeologic investigations including aquifer testing and site characterization.
* Develop conceptual site models.
* Prepare boring logs and well construction diagrams using gINT or similar software.
* Apply groundwater modeling and fate and transport modeling.
* Author and review technical reports, plans, memoranda, and specifications.
* Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for clients, technical teams, and leadership.
Required Qualifications:
* Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, or related field (required).
* Professional Geologist (PG) or Certified Hydrogeologist (CHg) license in California (required).
* 10-20 years of progressive consulting experience in geology/hydrogeology.
* Demonstrated business development and client relationship experience.
* Experience with CERCLA, RCRA, DTSC, California Water Board, and other CalEPA programs.
* Ability to mentor and lead engineers, geologists, scientists, and technicians.
* Strong project management, organizational, and time management skills.
* Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
* Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
* Ability to manage multiple projects and perform under pressure.
* Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.
Preferred Qualifications:

Physical Requirements:

The position requires someone with knowledge and experience working in Georgia at a federal and state level. This is a remote position, but you must be physically located in the state of Georgia.
Role accountabilities:
As a Senior-level Archaeologist, you will apply your technical knowledge to develop creative, effective, and economical solutions to address project issues. You will be a key cultural resource team member who interacts with project and program managers, and you will work as part of an interdisciplinary environmental team. You will also provide supervision, training, technical direction and mentoring to junior-level staff, when appropriate.
The more technical aspects of your role will be serving as a PI in Georgia. Other states may include South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Louisiana. You will be working on multiple projects including all levels of investigation (Phase I, II, III). Conducting your own fieldwork, as well as managing archaeological field staff and archaeological field crews (including subcontractors) will be required. You will need to conduct or lead field assessments related to archaeological projects. This will require a working knowledge of GPS systems and the ability to walk and conduct shovel test surveys for long hours, as well as carry supplies weighing up to 40 pounds. This role will require the ability to travel up to 30%.

The role - what you'll do
Barr is seeking a hydrogeologist to join our team to help with challenging projects related to quantitative hydrogeology. In this hybrid role, you will apply hydrogeology and groundwater modeling skills on projects related to water supply evaluations, remediation of contaminated groundwater, mine planning and development, and groundwater-surface water interactions.
Responsibilities will include working individually or as a part of a project team to assist with conceptual site model development; numerical modeling of groundwater flow and fate and transport; and aquifer test performance analysis. Fieldwork opportunities for this position are also available and may include on-site investigations of contaminated soil, groundwater, sediment, and soil gas, including oversight of well installation and sample collection, and preparation of drilling logs, cross sections, geologic maps, and technical reports. Fieldwork opportunities for this position may be year-round and require some out-of-town travel.

Your impact - key responsibilities
Technical knowledge: apply foundational hydrogeology and geoscience principles to support subsurface investigations, groundwater and soil sampling, and related data collection. Assist with data analysis and contribute to evaluations of groundwater flow, contaminant transport, and site conditions. Support hydrogeologic modeling tasks such as data preparation, calibration, and interpretation under supervision.
Project support: help coordinate field activities and logistics, including contractor oversight and equipment preparation. Assist in tracking project progress and documenting key milestones.
Problem solving: contribute to the interpretation of geologic and hydrogeologic conditions and the identification of potential solutions to water- and subsurface-related challenges. Learn how to apply regulatory knowledge, hydrogeologic methods, and scientific reasoning to real-world scenarios.
Communication: produce clear figures and data summaries, draft report sections, and communications. Provide concise status updates to project managers and stakeholders.
Interpersonal savvy: effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and clients to align technical work with project objectives while fostering strong, productive working relationships.
About the opportunity
Compensation: anticipated range of $70,000-$85,000 annually. Compensation will vary based on relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance. This position is classified as exempt (salaried) under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Hybrid: a hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position can be based out of Barr's Ann Arbor, Michigan; Duluth or Minneapolis, Minnesota; or Salt Lake City, Utah, offices.
Travel expectation: willingness to travel and periodically adjust personal schedule to meet project needs.
Work environment: ability to work in locations that may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Job assignments may involve work on waste disposal sites and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials. An OSHA-mandated physical exam may be required. Safety training will be provided. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients. Candidates must be able to perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
Physical requirements for the role may include:
Ability to conduct fieldwork in varying outdoor conditions (e.g., heat, cold, rain, uneven terrain).
Must be able to lift and carry equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
Capable of standing, walking, kneeling, or crouching for extended periods.
Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by site conditions.
Ability to safely operate or work around environmental monitoring and sampling equipment.
About you - required core competencies
Education: master's degree in geology, hydrogeology, or a related engineering degree.
Experience: thesis, coursework, or previous work experience directly related to groundwater flow and/or fate and transport modeling; two or more years of relevant work experience.
GPA: minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0.
Software: strong computer skills, including familiarity with MODFLOW and Microsoft Office Suite.
Driver's license: possession of a current, valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future.
Helpful additional experience (not required)
Software: proficiency in GIS and programming experience using Python or FORTRAN.
Training: 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard (HAZWOPER) certification.
Familiarity with Groundwater Vistas.
Experience in aquifer test implementation and analysis.
Experience or coursework in the use of groundwater fate and transport codes.
Experience or coursework in parameter estimation and uncertainty analysis using PEST.
Familiarity with environmental regulations.
