Under the supervision and guidance of the SterileProcessing Manager and the SterileProcessing Lead Technician the SterileProcessingTechnician is responsible for decontamination, preparation, sterilization, distribution, and control of medical-surgical instruments, supplies and equipment for the Perioperative departments, and other patient care areas as well as surgical case cart preparation.
* High School Diploma, GED, or a higher level of education that would require the completion of high school, is required.
* One year of recent full time CSR experience preferred.
* Central SterileTechnician certification through the Certification Board for SterileProcessing and Distribution (CBSPD) or the International Association of Healthcare Central Service and Materials Management (IAHCSMM). If not currently certified, certification must be obtained within 18 months of hire. In lieu of Technician certification, Surgical Instrument Specialist certification from either of these organizations will be accepted only for those who were working in SterileProcessing prior to January 1, 2016.
* Certification must be maintained.
* Performs decontamination and high level disinfection of medical- surgical instrumentation and equipment according to department policies, infection prevention guidelines, and manufacturers' written instructions.
* Inspects, assembles and sterilizes surgical instruments insuring instruments are clean, functioning properly and sets are complete.
* Performs Steam and Sterrad sterilization, and high level disinfection according to established policies and procedures.
* Performs required monitoring and record keeping of sterilization and disinfection processes including knowledge of procedures for monitoring failures and the recall procedure.
* Prepares and fills case carts with supplies and instruments according to preference card pick lists.
* Retrieves surgeon preference cards from Care Navigator for add-on procedures.
* Retrieves case carts from Operating Rooms and delivers to the decontamination area throughout the shift.
* Retrieves contaminated instruments from patient care areas.
* Issues and/or delivers medical-surgical instruments and supplies to patient care areas.
* Prepares, replenishes and exchanges emergency code carts.
* Transports medication trays for code cart replenishment.
* Orders and stocks medical-surgical supplies.
* Required to be on call when scheduled for weekends, 3rd shift, holidays and other times deemed necessary by the SterileProcessing Manager and/or SterileProcessing Lead Technician.
* Demonstrates knowledge of the age-related differences and needs of patients in appropriate, specific

POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for de-contamination, processing, assembling and sterilizing instruments and equipment. Responsible for the disinfection and restocking of Isolation, Emergency Carts and other patient care equipment. Works within the guidelines for infection control, JCAHO, OSHA and AAMI to assure sterility of supplies, to provide and maintain necessary levels. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
• Certification in SterileProcessing through a nationally accredited central service organization such as the Certification Board for SterileProcessing and Distribution (CBSPD) or Healthcare & SterileProcessing Association (IAHCSMM) is required. (CRCST or CBSPD accepted.)
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license, maintain a driving record free of any violations and pass a safe driving educational program upon hire and annually thereafter in order to participate in the Fleet Vehicle Program as outlined in the Eastern Connecticut Health Network's Environment of Care Safety Policies and Procedures #110.
EXPERIENCE:
• Minimum 2 years experience as a SterileProcessingTechnician I.
COMPETENCIES:
• On an on-going basis the incumbent must obtain the mandatory number of continued educational units (CEU's) needed to maintain the currency of certification.
• Requires advanced and demonstrated knowledge and understanding of sterileprocessing principles.

I. Major Responsibilities:

3. Assists physicians and health care staff with advanced endoscopic procedures. Utilizes specimen retrieval instruments and other devices to assist with procedures. Collects, records and labels tissue samples and other specimens.
4. Assists physicians and health care staff with routine and emergency procedures, as assigned.
5. Assist physicians with hemostatic instruments including but not limited to clips, electrocautery devices, bicaping, argon plasma coagulation and variceal ligation and banding.
6. Maintains, cleans and disinfects endoscopes and accessories utilizing an automated scope washing system. Changes high-level disinfection solutions, filters, log paper, and printing ribbons as needed. Records scope washing, broken equipment, and high- level disinfectant changes according to policy and procedure.
7. Maintains equipment and supplies, cleaning of procedure rooms, and patient care equipment and areas in accordance with policy and procedures. Restock and properly maintain procedure rooms, travel carts, and travel equipment supply boxes.
8. Retrieves and restocks linens, patient nutrition supplies, and general order supplies. Rotate stock in supply room and procedure rooms as necessary. Assures accurate inventory of supplies based on approved levels. Initiate requisition for supply re-stocking and special-order items.
9. Properly dons and dofs PPE and wears radiation protection including dosimeter during all fluoroscopy procedures.
10. Responsible for covering a rotation of on-call hours to meet endoscopic emergency needs on weekdays, weekends, and holidays.

Performs a variety of routine technical and patient care duties under the direction of physicians and nurses. Responsible for the cleaning and reprocessing of a variety of endoscopes and accessories. Maintains and stocks instruments and supplies.
I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Prepares procedure rooms for endoscopic procedures. Assists with patient transfer to and from procedure rooms, prepares vital sign monitoring systems, and position patient appropriate to procedure. Assists health care team with patient care, ensuring proper airway protection via oral suctioning during upper endoscopic procedures.
2. Assembles necessary equipment specific to procedure, to include scopes and instruments used for therapeutic and diagnostic treatments. Troubleshoots and ensure proper working order of computer and equipment.
3. Assists patients, physicians, and health care staff with endoscopic procedures as assigned. Utilizes specimen retrieval instruments and other devices to assist with procedures. Collects, records and labels tissue samples and other specimens.
4. Assists physicians with hemostatic instruments including but not limited to clips, electrocautery devices, bicaping, argon plasma coagulation and variceal ligation and banding.
5. Maintains, cleans and disinfects endoscopes and accessories utilizing an automated scope washing system. Changes high-level disinfection solutions, filters, log paper, and printing ribbons as needed.
6. Records scope washing, broken equipment, and high- level disinfectant changes according to policy and procedure.
7. Maintains equipment and supplies, cleaning of procedure rooms, and patient care equipment and areas in accordance with policy and procedures. Restock and properly maintain procedure rooms, travel carts, and travel equipment supply boxes.
8. Retrieves and restocks linens, patient nutrition supplies, and general order supplies. Rotate stock in supply room and procedure rooms as necessary. Assures accurate inventory of supplies based on approved levels. Initiate requisition for supply re-stocking and special-order items.
9. Demonstrates a commitment to maintain effective communication with patients, families, peers, and other members of the health team.

Job Summary:
Endoscopy technician is a member of gastroenterology (GI) team. Under the direction of a GI physician or RN endoscopy technician provides assistance during endoscopic procedures including colonoscopy, esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), cystoscopy, bronchoscopy, Bravo and endoscopic retrograde cholangio-pancreatography (ERCP); assists with specimen collection and handling, cleans and sterilizes endoscopy instrumentation/equipment, orders supplies to maintain appropriate supply levels, facilitates patient flow and turnover in Endoscopy department.
